Wishing all our members a happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Indigenous Peoples have lived in the Americas for tens of thousands of years, and their cultures are alive and thriving today. Today we recognize the resilience of Indigenous Peoples across the country and the living cultures that continue to grow and lead.

Within ONA, the Oklahoma Indigenous Nurses Association (OINA) gives Native nurses and nursing students a stronger voice in the health care of Indigenous populations. Their goals include educating the health care community about Indigenous history and culture, bringing more diversity to health research, and addressing racism in health care settings.

Their work reaches beyond Native communities. It makes care better for every patient and every nurse. Thank you, OINA, for leading the way.

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is changing how healthcare organizations create clinical documentation. Ambient scribes can turn conversations into draft notes. Decision-support tools can suggest diagnoses or treatments. Chatbots can generate patient messages. Behind those visible outputs, systems also may produce transcripts, prompts, confidence scores, alternate recommendations, coding suggestions, and technical logs. For hospitals and health systems, that creates a question: Which of those artifacts belong in the permanent medical record, and what should happen to everything else?
