✨ Introducing our Miniature Makerspace! ✨

Our library’s makerspace may be taking a little break after the storm and flooding that closed our entire downstairs, but the creative spirit of our community is still going strong!

While the downstairs remains closed, we’ve brought a little bit of the makerspace upstairs. Our Miniature Makerspace is now stocked with take-and-make craft kits for makers of all ages! Stop by, pick up a project, and take a little creativity home with you. 🧵✂️🖍️

We’re also starting an Amazon Wishlist with some supplies that will help us keep our Miniature Makerspace stocked and full of fun projects while our downstairs space is out of commission. If you’d like to help, you can find the wishlist here: https://a.co/0bM9L9nx

A quick note about this wishlist: these items are specifically for our temporary Miniature Makerspace. We’ll be sharing more information in the future about ways to help replace and rebuild the materials and equipment that were lost or damaged downstairs. For now, this little wishlist helps us keep the creativity going upstairs.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the library through this unexpected chapter. We’re so grateful and we can’t wait to see what you make! 🥰

Join us in Dark Hollow Woods as we see the season begin to change. "Accessible Fall Walk" will look at what is happening right now in the upper portion of our woods, avoiding the steep sections. This is NOT at the library. ALL in-house library programming is canceled until further notice.

(Library Building Updates - 9/11/2026)

During heavy storms on Thursday, September 3, the lower level of the Oakmont Carnegie Library took on eight inches of water, mud, and debris.

The lower level will remain closed until mold remediation and electrical repairs are completed, and on-site events will be canceled, postponed, or relocated until further notice. The main floor is expected to reopen on Monday, September 14.

The library staff and board are deeply grateful for the support of Oakmont and Verona residents and business owners. For more information and ways to help, please read our full statement here: https://oakmontlibrary.org/2026/09/11/ocl-flood-building-damage-update-9-11-2026/.

(Library Closed - Building Update 9/6/2026)

On Thursday, September 3rd, the lower level of our library took on substantial water during the storm. All rooms were quickly flooded approximately 8 inches deep. Emergency crews were brought in immediately to mitigate further damage and start the cleanup and repair process, but existing damage is substantial.

The library is closed until further notice, but we are working to reopen the main floor of our library as soon as possible and will share updates as they become known. When we reopen, we will work to see if we are able to accommodate any scheduled programs and story times in our upstairs areas, but most will be cancelled and the lower level will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

We are incredibly grateful for community support while we navigate the next steps.

Sincerely,

Caitlyn Boland,
Library Director
