Thankful to the universe (and my boss) for sending me such a cool horse, 2020 KY Derby Starter South Bend moved up to the .80’s this weekend and laid down some fantastic rounds.

It's wonderful to see these two excel in the show ring, just as they did on the track. Graded stakes winner Eons and Kentucky Derby starter South Bend put in some fantastic efforts in their first and second horseshow.

Eons arrived in Ocala this week and is settling in very well.

Flashy 10 year old 16.2hh Graded Stakes winning gelding by Giants Causeway. Eons is a multiple stakes winner and earned $711,000 during his incredibly impressive racing career. He has been lightly restarted over fences and shows a ton of promise in the hunter or jumper rings. Super comfortable undersaddle and very athletic. Excellent conformation and has been very happy and healthy his whole life with no history of illness or colic. He is very soft in the bridle and currently ridden in a hackamore or simple snaffle over fences and is happiest in that equipment. UTD on everything and ready to find his forever home with a career in the show ring. He comes from some of the best connections I know that always put the horse first, he has been very well loved and cared for his entire life. He will be available to approved homes with exceptional references that manage thoroughbreds well. Currently located in Ocala Fl. Don’t miss out on this one, these types don’t come around often.

7 year old 17hh Stallion by Street boss. Lightly raced with 4 starts and in the money 3 of those starts. Super competitive athlete with a wonderful demeanor. I had the opportunity to ride this beautiful boy during his racing career, and not only is he stunning in hand, he has a fantastic well balanced and soft way of going that will make a seamless transition into his next career. He has been well loved and cared for by his breeder for his entire life and holds a very special place in their hearts and has become a member of the family. They are looking for a creative situation for a professional rider to annually care lease under the terms that he can remain a stallion. Gelding this stage in life can be risky and as well mannered as he is it is not something they’re willing to consider at this time. He is available for annual care lease and they would entertain other creative options or partial ownership to the right program.

Meet a barn favorite! My Sea Cottage (IRE)
7 year old 16.2hh gelding. Just raced 10/25 making him RRP Eligible. Retired with 30 starts and six figures in career earnings. Imported from Ireland as a yearling. I adored getting to be his regular rider over the last 3 years and he holds a very special place in my heart because his type is genuinely so hard to come by. Excellent demeanor and even better work ethic. He has been very lighty restarted with a handful of off the track rides and shows a lot of potential for a dressage, jumper or eventing second career. While my main focus is the hunter and jumper rings I really think this one would be a fantastic eventer in the right program. He is naturally very well balanced and uphill. I really think 6 months from now with a good consistent program the peices will really start coming together for him once he learns how to stretch down and relax through his back. He caught on to picking up his leads in each direction very quickly and is ready to find his forever person to give him the time and attention he deserves. I could really use a bigger farm (and some more free time) at this stage so I can start hoarding some of my favorites.

A new $25,000 Thoroughbred Hunter Derby will make its debut at the Upperville C**t & Horse Show in June, replacing the recent Upperville Thoroughbred Hunter Classic. The derby will take place Tuesday afternoon, in the Parker Ring beneath Upperville’s iconic oaks. A post-class reception will be held in the Friends of Upperville tent adjacent to the grandstand.

The new derby reflects a growing, industry-wide effort to expand opportunities for Thoroughbreds at recognized horse shows. In recent years, trainers, owners, and Thoroughbred advocates have worked to elevate the visibility and competitiveness of Thoroughbreds in hunter and jumper sport.

TAKE2, founded by the late Bruce Duchossois and Rick Violette Jr. of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc., has been at the forefront of that movement. The program partners with USEF-rated horse shows to offer hunter and jumper divisions restricted to Thoroughbreds eligible for registration with The Jockey Club. More recently, Carrie Brogden—a Thoroughbred enthusiast active in the racing industry—told Camden, South Carolina-based trainer Ron Danta that the racing industry was interested in promoting the idea of a Thoroughbred-only derby series offering significant prize money.
