Painted Horse Urban Ultra

Photos from the Swan's Song Urban Run yesterday! Congrats to everyone who completed the Painter's Revenge by doing the Skunk Ape Events 60k, Painted Horse 55k, and Swan's Song 30k for a total of 90 miles in the last week!

Have you heard? Race books and routes are out for the Painted Horse Urban Ultra (55k/25k) in Ocala and the Swan's Song Urban Run (30k) in Lakeland. I know some people have been route-curious, so I wanted to throw it out there. I'd be happy to see you in two weeks (you can register morning of).

These are super low key and mostly self-supported runs for those looking to dip their toes into urban navigation type races. Routes are linked in the race books on ultrasignup!

Yesterday was an amazing day in Ocala and I am so proud of everyone who took part! We had 15 participants, with five of them doing their very first 50k! Despite the light rain all day, we had a 100% finish rate for the 33(ish) mile race.

Huge shoutout to Dan Donald for putting together an aid station around mile 25. You and your boys were definitely a morale booster for the runners!

Everyone saw about 45 horses and shared their favorite horse that they saw. In order of race placement, they are:

We are less than two weeks away from the event and I have finalized the route!

It has everything you need including information, links to the caltopo map, strava route, and google map, and turn-by-turn directions. You can print those directions, but I will have plenty of copies with me at the start!

There are a few horses that are inside areas we cannot access (Marion County Admin Offices and Ocala/MC Visitor's Bureau) and one that has been "retired" (Ocala Golf Course), so I will have printed photos of these horses at the locations for your viewing pleasure.

The race will start at 7am in the downtown square. I recommend using the parking garage located at 504 SE Broadway St, but that's totally up to you!

Had a great day of route scouting for the race! I used my paper directions and will be refining some points as well as editing the map a little bit. It's a new course from the original 2021 route and I wanted to make the logistics easier by having a loop instead of point-to-point. I wouldn't have the event without first testing the course and knowing how the runners will feel during it. I hope it isn't 84° like it was for me, lol.

Race day (February 17th) is less than 3 weeks away and I'm excited for everyone who is seeing so many horses for the first time!! 40ish horses over 33ish miles! Heck yeah!! The final route and race book will be sent this week!
