'The horse always tells you the truth.
Not the pedigree page. Not the sale catalog.
The horse.' π΄
Learning to listen is the skill that takes decades to develop. It's also what we bring to every single horse in our program.

π Monday Term of the Week: WEANLING vs YEARLING
A WEANLING is a foal that has been weaned from its mother. Typically around 4β6 months old. All potential and personality.
A YEARLING is a horse in their first full year of life. By yearling sales, they've grown significantly and can be evaluated for conformation and movement.
Pinhookers often buy weanlings and sell them as yearlings or buy yearlings and sell as 2-year-olds in training. The earlier you buy, the more possible upside potential and the more unknowns.
That's the game. π΄

Thank you to everyone who dropped questions yesterday. π΄
Here are some that deserve a spot light because they seem to be pretty consistent in our conversations with new owners:
β If someone wanted to get involved in Thoroughbred ownership without spending a fortune, whatβs the smartest way to get started?
β
Syndication or small-percentage ownership. To put it simply, owning a Thoroughbred doesnβt have to feel overwhelming or out of reach. There are so many groups within the industry, both large and small, that come together to purchase horses. Whether itβs a few people each owning 33% of a horse or a larger syndicate where you own 2.5β5%, thereβs truly a place in this industry for everyone.
β Whatβs the biggest mistake first-time Thoroughbred owners make before buying a horse?
β
Not doing enough research. Buying a Thoroughbred isnβt like buying a car. You canβt just walk onto a lot, negotiate a price, and drive away. Itβs incredibly important to build the right team around you: trainers, bloodstock agents, advisors, and experienced horsemen. The right people will help guide you toward the best decisions and set you up for success. Never be afraid to ask questions along the way.
β When youβre looking at a young horse, whatβs one thing most people focus on that really doesnβt matter as much as they think?
β
Perfection. A lot of people expect young horses to check every single box physically, but the reality is that very few do. Minor imperfections or awkward growth stages can distract people from what really matters: athleticism, mindset, movement, and overall potential. Young horses are still developing, and sometimes the horse that isnβt the flashiest in the sale ring turns out to be the one with the most heart and ability once they get to the racetrack. This is also why it is extremely important to surround yourself with a solid team.
