Max Effort Method vs Traditional “Maxing Out”
1. Use a different variation of the lift you’re trying to improve each week
2. Use 1-5 rep ranges
3. Meet the effort goal of the day, not weight on the bar
Notes:
- It’s best if you can choose variations that target weak points in the lift you’re looking to improve
- compare the top set on each variation to that same variation when it comes back around. It should be going up. If not, examine why, maybe that variation needs to be phased out for a while
- use traditional maxing as what it was intended for…TESTING, not training

I’ve been away for a while, but for good reasons! My son was born, the gym has been running full steam, and there just wasn’t the time or energy to keep up with social media content.
But I’m back, full of energy, and I’ve got a lot to share.
Going forward you can expect content around strength & conditioning, strongman, the conjugate method, and general health and fitness information. All filtered through the lens of someone who’s coaching, running a business, competing, and figuring out parenthood at the same time.
I’m also proud to be working as an affiliate coach alongside through the JHEPC Coaching Collective. Go give him and the other coaches of the collective a follow if you haven’t already.
If that sounds like your kind of content, stick around. I think it’s going to be worth your time.
