Looking back on a recent lesson with my trainer Niall, I wanted to share what we’ve continued to work on with Choco. We have been keeping things slow and calm… and training THROUGH relaxation.
This can be challenging for her, but we are building a language between us - a language built on trust and partnership. Horses can’t learn without relaxation. So we work through tension rather than past it. This helps them not brace and keeps us on the positive path forward together. I’m so excited for the journey with this special mare!
Many thanks to Denise for letting us use your beautiful facility!

I can’t sing enough praises about my friend and student, Natalie Keller Reinert, and her books! Natalie is a champion for horse women, working women, and all of us chasing impossible dreams. I’m so grateful for the acknowledgment she included for me as her trainer in her latest book, The Jump.
One line especially touched me: “Your passion is for the horse and for the art of partnership; dressage scores are just something we pick up along the way.”
That sentiment captures my heart and philosophy.
Her newest book especially speaks to those pursuing the horse industry-anxiety and all -even later in life. It’s honest, relatable, and so real. I can’t recommend it enough.

We recently attended a UDJClub show and it was a welcomed addition to our schedule. Their focus on education and affordability while providing a positive path for riders and horses is something I believe our sport needs!
My goal for us at this show was simple and fun - let Choco enjoy the atmosphere, get some feedback from the judges, and just have a relaxed day out together. She felt amazing in this environment and topped it off by winning her M class (3rd Level) on a 74%!
If you haven’t looked into UDJC yet, definitely take a look at their philosophy and offerings. I look forward to attending more myself and with my students!
