It's ironic the equine industry values age related expertise of trainers yet discriminates against horses with the same. Clients wouldn't fathom telling a trainer they're too old to do the job yet their knee-jerk reaction to a teenage horse who honestly is probably sounder than the trainer is 'oh no!"
It's mind blowing to realize that Calais, after making money earlier in the week in the 140 and then giving Delaney a double clear in yesterday's 120, would be valued in the marketplace at a price equal to her expenses for a year.
*Not because she's blooded
*Not because she's a mare
*Solely because she's 16 years old
It's funny that I probably couldn't give away a sound teenage horse that is about to carry Delaney through her first Welcome Prix this spring because "she's too old."
Calais doesn't think she's old and I'm not telling her 🏆
