Definitely makes it seem like they don’t want anyone fishing out of South Jersey, new article coming out soon to address the frightening reality that is offshore wind pushing down on the East coast. It’s almost as if they purposely don’t show any two project lease areas next to each other because the number of wind turbines would add up too quickly….

Giving the fish the advantage, a three prong or Hawaiian sling is perfect for getting up close and personal in rocks, reefs and caves. The challenge is holding your breath long enough to let them settle back into a pattern once hitting the bottom to line up the perfect shot, often the lightest hold on the pole spear yields the strongest contact by just “poking” the fish with the tip of the three prongs as overpowering will push the fish away, losing your dinner to the thick moray eels that patrol the inner reefs.

First marlin for me was actually a double up, the fish in the first pic ate a malolo (flying fish) on the long rigger when we slowed down for the fish in the second picture that bridled itself on a medium plunger on the long corner. With the corner bite in the chair, and the 130 down to backing (didn’t, know it was foul hooked at the time and assumed it was a much bigger fish), the fish that ate the long rigger was short work which was quickly brought to the boat as it was a small blue. Focus shifted to the fish in the chair and we quickly realized we hooked a cookie cutter version of the first small marlin, just in the top of the head which he stuck down and emptied the spool on the 130. These were the first two marlin I ever had on the wire and I was hooked, that was the first week of the new year and my first trip as a mate in Hawaii, I went on to mate most of the 2021 season on the Ruckus with Capt

This is what it’s all about, you can only hope that when that rod goes off you have the opportunity to yell “Tags in!”….sad but stoked to end my time (for now) in Hawaii and move back to the East Coast. Looking forward to sharing more content from the fish filled hiatus taken from my page and website with big things coming in 2023, as always thanks for the support and feel free to reach out!
