Nobody talks about the grief that comes with injury.
The grief of missing your season.The grief of losing your routine.The grief of watching from the sidelines.The grief of not feeling like yourself. The grief of missing who you were prior the injury.
Injury isn’t just physical. It’s emotional, too.
If you’re grieving during an injury, it doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you lost something important that mattered to you.
Recovery involves healing both the body and the mind.

Going through an injury doesn’t mean you can’t focus on strengthening your mind.
Here are five mental skills to train:
1️⃣ Visualization — mentally rehearse your return to sport
2️⃣ Self-talk — audit and reframe your inner dialogue
3️⃣ Focus control — practice directing attention intentionally
4️⃣ Emotional regulation — learn to sit with emotions without judgment
5️⃣ Identity work — strengthen who you are beyond your sport
When your body is ready to return to sport, your mind will already be prepared!
