There are 8 🏔️ passes on the JMT, 6 of them over 11,000 feet!
Here are 3️⃣ reasons to choose your camp spot the night before in a way that allows you to plan to reach the pass EARLY.
1️⃣Energy is needed not only for the ascent but even more importantly for the descent (injuries are far more common on descent). Hit the pass early when you’ve got more energy!
2️⃣Hard packed snow is safer to hike on than slushy snow. Avoid slushy/slippery snow and post-holing (when your foot breaks through the snow and your leg goes deep into the snow) by going early in the day when the sun has not had as much time on the snow.
3️⃣Avoid afternoon thunderstorms. You do not want to be above tree line in a thunderstorm which are common in the summer and most often arrive in the afternoon.

One Stop Trail Shop Origin Story- Part 3
We returned from our Roper's Route honeymoon and I got to work.
A name, a logo, the backbone of a website.
I signed up for a business starter course.
I've invested in tools and in training and I've been offering kick-ass free value since late 2022.
The hard work has been a roller coaster already, and it has been sn*******ng as I've stayed committed to riding it out.
I've told so many people, "it's exciting to be excited about something."
In all honesty it had been a while.
So, thanks for letting me support you on your JMT hike.
It's been many years in the making, and I am now finally doing the scary thing: holding my big fears, and my big dreams.
So thanks for being here and supporting the dream! 🙂

🐘 sometimes I feel like when I talk John Muir Trail prep, there’s an elephant in the room, and that is the fact that we are having a record snow fall winter.
I won’t pretend to be a snow travel expert (because I’m not), and I know that plans for this summer have more variables than most.
I do hope that amidst all your other research, (safe river crossing, crampons, ice axes, self-arrest skills, etc), One Stop Trail Shop is a breath of fresh air.
Some simplicity among these storms.
Some much-needed clarity within a lot of gray areas.
♥️

One Stop Trail Shop Origin Story- Part 2
Fast-forward a few months and my husband and I are on a backpacking honeymoon.
We'd chosen a route called the Sierra High Route (or Roper's Route, name for the man who pieced it together), and we're navigating trail-less passes but hopping on and off the John Muir Trail as we followed the route.
We'd sent a resupply to Vermillion Valley Resort, and hung out with the JMT hiker's on the zero day we spent there.
And then it clicked.
When talking with the JMT'ers I was reminded of the chaos that was preparation for the trail. I had hiked it years prior and was still somewhat new to backpacking.
But over the years I'd come to enjoy and even thrive in the planning process.
Our garage is my domain.
I pack the car in a strategic Tetris anytime we head out on trips.
I've got years of spreadsheets for road trips and out-of-state backpacking trips.
I've got reminders on my calendar months and years in advance to snag those hard-to-get permits.
I realized I had a skillset that others could benefit from.
My mission has been born from this foundational value. 👆 That my simplification might get you past those moments of overwhelm, and help you turn that dream trip into a reality. Download my freebies (linked in the highlight and at the link in my bio) to find simplified (and beatified) information to help you plan your JMT thru-hike.
Stay tuned for part 3

One Stop Trail Shop Origin Story- Part 1
Last year this time I was walking away from a leatherworks business I had been working on.
I realized that I was kidding myself.
I'd pursued this idea because it was mildly interesting and gave me an excuse to travel to Mexico to buy leather at a deeply discounted price.
March 2022 my business was at a point where it was just starting to get traction. Wholesale orders were starting to come in. Sales were getting a little more regular.
But I realized (with the help of the Brave & Bold program offered by ) that my heart simply was not in this business.
There was nothing on the line, because it didn't really matter to me.
There was, however, these other ideas that had been mulling around in my brain for many years by that point.
Something about getting people into the outdoors…
about simplifying the process, lowering the barrier of entry…
Stay tuned for part 2, but know that if today hiking the JMT is a stifled dream, this time next year maybe we could be preparing for your thru-hike.
If you want to get the inspiration growing, join my email list, its a good one. 🙂
