90 CTC Double Centuries, +8 other Doubles. Personal History following, in my opinion, may look like a big deal to many, but I didn't ride them for recognition, I rode them, because I love to ride! It is God whom I give recognition for keeping me Safe, and giving me the motivation, time, money, and everything else it takes to train & finish any & all the rides I have ever done. Honestly, they in & of themselves are nothing, compared to the character qualities produced in me, through the rides, which are, by far, more valuable than any accomplishment. Being able to finish a challenge without complaining (( in my head), is more important. Being an encourager, that sort of thing; is of utmost value. Keeping it fun...always a priority. Win your own personal race. All that said, here is my history:
Race Across America: 4-tandem "Men's" team 1996,1997 1st Place both years. (only Female these teams, so technically, still a "men's" team)
John Williams captained the tandem in 1996, and Dennis Kokas captained the tandem in 1997. Bicycled across the U.S. with Wandering Wheels: 7 times: 1979,1980,1981.1983.1985,1989,&1990. We (about 60-80 riders) averaged 100 miles a day resting 1 day/week for 5-6 weeks, depending on the route that year. Camped out, had cooks, our gear was carried for us. Lots & lots of fun!! We rode in teams of 6, w/ 11 teams on the road. I was a Team Leader of 6 riders, for four treks. Across the U.S.A. , twice, with PAC Tour :2005, & 2016. in '05: We averaged 140 miles/day; our longest 160, w/ many days in the 140's & 150's. We (35 Riders) rode every day for 25 days straight days w/ no rest days. Great weather that year; no rain except the last day, the last 10 miles! Can you believe that?!! so it wasn't hot either. Stayed in a real bed every night, had cooks, & carried our gear. Loved this trip. In 2016, Rode the Northern PAC Tour. 31 days, with one rest day, w 40 Riders, and 10 Staff. PAC Tour is way-different than w/ W. Wheels, as we do not camp out. Glad to experience both types of trips! Everest Challenge: twice on a tandem, 1st place w/Dan Crain, Captain (now deceasded)
Everest Challenge: twice on my single; 1st place in my age category
Triple Century: once (LA Wheelmen)
Rando Brevets: don't keep track of this number, except the 3 600Ks (375 miles in 24 hrs.)
. Calif Land Rush 1200: 2nd place tandem the 1st yr they did it
Double Centuries :currently 90 Calif.Triple Crown Doubles.(as of Jan.2021)
Other Double Centuries: Utah's Desperado Duo 3 X's, When testing a double, before it becomes official no Calif.Triple Crown is given. I ride tested the following doubles, therefore without CTC credit, per rules:
Borrego Double, Oceanside double, Joshua Tree Double, White Mountain Double, and, I also rode Death Valley Double, unsupported, back around 1995 on a tandem with John Williams on the last day of the year. I rode Knoxville w/out CTC credit one year. Centuries: I counted over 2,000 in Jan.of the yr.2,000. After that, I stopped counting, & rarely, wished I'd kept counting. White Mtn Double: 2011 1st Place single bike; only time I've ever gotten 1st place on a DC on my single Ok, I just took 1st again in 2013 is what a friend told me that read the WMD webb site. CTC Stage Races on Tandem: 1st place once (w/ Dan Crain), 2nd Place w/ Dr. Mojo Cosgrove (due to mechanicals, we came in 20 secs behind 1st place that year, but we did come in 1st on Devil Mtn.Double!!)
