TRAINING WITH PURPOSE.
is starting a brand new course tomorrow!
This two day/week course is designed for pre-military hopefuls that want to get in shape for boot camp. Preparing for a career in the military can be a daunting task, and this course is designed to make the physical challenges attainable.
There’s always some circumstances that get in the way get in the way of training. and I decided we didn’t want cost to be one of those circumstances that gets in the way of this course, especially considering how life-changing a military career can be to an individual. So we offered a scholarship for a free ride through this 12-week course.
Here’s our winner, . It was an honor to read through the submissions, and even more of an honor to select a winner. We are excited to be able to offer our course to Mateo, and expect wonderful things from him as he prepares for boot camp for the United States Marine Corps.

GYM EGO.
Learn to let go of it. When you do, gains will flow in abundance.
I’ll paraphrase something I heard from a while back—don’t allow yourself to hide behind big weights or difficult scaling options. Lighter weight gives you nowhere to hide. Drop the weight and see what you’re really capable of.
No heavy weight or complicated movements today. Even so, fitness was had.

MAKING TIME FOR EXERCISE.
We all have the same amount of time given to us. What we do with that time is our choice. Sometimes our daily work schedules and life responsibilities make that more of a challenge.
Saying you don’t have time to exercise is just an excuse. You may not want to hear it, but it’s true. There is a way—somehow—for all of us to find a pocket of time to get something done. Make it a priority to set aside that time.
Today I had 20 minutes between classes I was coaching, and I chose to spend 10 of those on the . It wasn’t the greatest, but it has moved me slightly closer towards my fitness goals.
Make a choice today to find time (even 10 minutes) to work out. If you don’t know what to do, DM me and I’ll help you come up with one that works for your schedule, equipment, and current fitness level.

FOOD.
We all need to eat to survive. What we eat matters.
There’s a ton of information out there, so much so that it can be paralyzing at times.
If you want to improve your health, start making a shift towards whole, unprocessed foods.
Processed foods are designed with one thing in mind—tasting as good as possible. The better it tastes, the more people will eat, and the more they will buy. It’s pretty simple. All processed food companies want you to buy more of their product.
As important as total caloric consumption is, as far as behavioral adherence is concerned, eating whole, unprocessed foods is more important as it will make meeting your caloric goals easier.
Healthy bodies get results the fastest. Want to speed up your progress? Eat the right stuff.

YOU SHOULD LIFT WEIGHTS.
If you currently lift weights, good. If you don’t lift weights, you should start.
Compound lifts (multi-joint) are ideal. Do them frequently and focus on improving your technique every session.
Lift with good form. As much as you can probably learn on the internet for free, nothing beats having a trained eye watch you and correct your form. Find someone qualified and pay them to teach you well. A small investment now will put you on track for a lifetime of success.
Lifting weights will help you shape your body, build muscle, lose fat, look better, be stronger, be more functional, and have more confidence in all aspects of life—the list goes on.
You don’t have to lift weights, but you should. Let me show you how.

ADD SUSTAINABLE CHANGES.
Making good choices is easy if we do it once. What makes things challenging is when we have to commit to them for long periods of time.
Assuming you plan on living for a long time, you’re going to need to make changes that you can adhere to FOREVER.
Removing things from our lifestyle forever is scary and most can’t adhere to that. Most enjoy the idea of being able to add to what they already do. Find something good and make it a part of your routine 👍🏼
What can you commit to adding to your lifestyle that will help improve your total body health?
My suggestion, start with one glass of water. Just add one glass of water per day to your routine. Stick with that for a bit, and see how things start to change. Bettering yourself doesn’t need to be difficult or confusing, but it does require consistency.

FITNESS SUPPLEMENTS.
How valuable are supplements for the average person? I would argue that for most people, supplements are useless.
There is no effective substitution for proper sleep, a balanced diet, and an appropriate exercise regimen.
If you’re thinking about adding a supplement to your routine, check yourself first.
Do you get restful, restorative sleep most nights?
Do you have a balanced diet that keeps you feeling strong, alert, and lean?
Do you exercise with appropriate movements executed properly and with effective intensity and volume?
If answered no to any of those questions, you don’t need to supplement, you need to relearn the basics.
Want help with any of these elements? Let’s talk.
THE DUMBBELL BENCH PRESS.
Keep your elbows at about 45 degree angle with your body (protect the shoulder).
Keep shoulder blades retracted, and PULL the weight down to you.
Make contact with the chest (full range of motion) and PRESS the dumbbells away.
Dumbbells won’t be as heavy as a barbell, but they introduce a stability element and provide excellent stimulus to the chest, triceps, and front delts.

LOVE THE PROCESS.
Living a healthy lifestyle is about finding enjoyment in the process of balancing many lifestyle factors.
Strive to find a training style or methodology that you enjoy. Exercise is not a short-term thing. If you’re planning on living a long time, plan on exercising for a long time. If you’re going to be exercising your whole life, might as well enjoy it, right?
Nobody is perfect. Nobody should expect to eat and exercise perfectly forever. Focus on trying your best most of the time, but don’t feel the need to avoid indulging once in a while. You are a human, not a robot.
Outside of your food and exercise, you should strive to improve your quality of sleep and reduce stress. You will be amazed at how quickly your body will respond positively to living a bit more stress-free and sleeping a bit more/longer.
Love the process. Enjoy life.

YOUR BODYWEIGHT DOESN’T MATTER.
The number you see on the scale is irrelevant. Nobody knows it but you. There’s no “good weight” or “bad weight.” Think to yourself—would you be happy looking exactly the same but weighing 50 lbs more or 50 lbs less?
How much do you think I weigh in this picture? 155? 160? 165?
If you guessed 191, you’re correct. But guess what else, IT DOESN’T FREAKIN MATTER. What matters is that I have developed a good relationship with food and exercise. I can splurge without guilt, I love the workouts I do, and I’m proud of what my body is capable of.
Stop obsessing over your body weight and start shifting your mindset. See what your body can do, and it will begin to look the way you want.
