A Challenging Year for Golf Course Superintendents

There is a high likelihood you have noticed golf courses have been under more stress than normal this year. We are lucky to have Dr. Adam Thoms, Associate Professor – Turfgrass Management and Sports Turf from Iowa State University help shed some light on what our golf course superintendents have been dealing with.

What a great weekend we had! A tradition like no other. Crowning well deserved champions in all three divisions. Dawson Fueling taking the men’s championship. Katie Pruess the women’s and Brecken Fueling the Jr. division.
A huge thanks to the members, staff, and tournament committee who make everything go!
Can’t wait for the next one!

Joe was so much more than an employee to us. He was a friend, a mentor, and a true part of our golf family. His love for the game, his knowledge, his stories, and the way he shared his passion with those around him will not be forgotten.
We were incredibly fortunate to have Joe as part of our team at Hickory Grove. His impact reached far beyond the golf course and he will be deeply missed. 
Rest easy, Joe. ⛳️💙

Rest in peace to a true legend of Iowa golf, Joe “Hawk” Hawkins (1951–2026). ⛳️

A PGA Professional since 1978, Past President of the Iowa PGA, and 1994 Iowa PGA Teacher of the Year, Hawk dedicated his life to the game and the countless players he mentored along the way. His warmth, skill, and passion for golf will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Maggie, and the entire Hawkins family.

Services: Tuesday, August 18th at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein, IA.
