The California Women's Championship was first held at Torrey Pines GC in 1996.
The purpose of the Championship is to conduct an annual non-profit women's Golf Championship to determine the California Women's Amateur Stroke Play Champion.

After 54 holes of stoke play and 3 different days of weather a new California Women’s Champion was crowned. Kate Villegas won on the first hole of a four way playoff with a birdie, scoring a three day total of 209, four under, at Ojai Valley Inn. The first day there was a 20 min fog delay, day two was sunny and warm and day three was pouring down rain to the start day. Shelly Haywood had a three day total of 222 to win the California Senior Women’s Championship. This was the 28th California Women’s Championship which has been hosted at Ojai Valley Inn since 2013.
