August Tournament Results:
With the low water level on Lake Okeechobee, the club voted to fish our one-day August tournament on Lake Kissimmee, out of Grape Hammock. Our June tournament on Kissimmee out of Joe Overstreet was a lot of fun and we were hoping to have a repeat event.

While the lake had plenty of water, the weather was really hot and water temps were in the 90s. That had the fish hunkered down in deep water (?) and hard to find.
Weigh-in was at 1PM and some of us were wondering why we didn't come in at noon. However, a few very capable anglers bolstered their bags by hitting favorite spots on their way back to the ramp.

Trying to get the word out…

Darren Lynn Brown, 61, died on August 13, 2026. He was born on April 25, 1965 in Wichita, Kansas to Farren and Karen Brown. Darren was always available to family in times of crisis, providing love, support, and guidance. He loved life, he loved his family and will be missed by the many lives he touched.

Darren worked as a leader and public servant in Barton, Pawnee, and Woodson counties in Kansas and in Okeechobee, Florida where he relocated eight years ago. He worked as the Director of Public Works for Okeechobee County.

He was a member of Beeline Bass Busters and B.A.S.S. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting, was PADI certified as an open water diver, and participated and directed fishing tournaments.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his father, Farren Lynn Brown; stepfather, James Douglas Seden; brother, Brian Alan Brown; and grandparents, Schuyler and Eva Mae Moser, and Russell and Ann Brown.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Raedesa (Hall) Brown; mother, Karen (Moser) Brown Soden; sons, Farren Lynn Brown, Clay Cooper (Savannah), and Levi Cooper; grandchildren, Waylynn Cooper, Tilly Cooper, Evie Cooper, and unborn grandson Brown; sister-in-law, Kristene (Crissman) Brown; nephew, Schuyler Lynn Brown; and nieces, Katrena Brown, Kourtney Brown, and Kerisa Brown.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Buxton Okeechobee Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Okeechobee High School Bass Fishing Club; Heart Failure Research Foundation, or the Okeechobee County Fire Rescue.

We lost a good soul yesterday. He will be deeply missed.
God speed!

Okeechobee County is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Public Works Director Darren Brown on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Darren was a dedicated public servant, a proud Army veteran, and a valued member of the Okeechobee County family. His commitment to serving his country and his community reflected a lifetime of service to others.

As Director of Public Works, Darren worked passionately on behalf of the residents of Okeechobee County. His leadership, work ethic, and dedication to his department and community will leave a lasting impact.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Darren’s family, friends, coworkers, and all those whose lives he touched during this difficult time.

Okeechobee County is grateful for Darren’s service, his leadership, and his friendship. His legacy of service will not be forgotten.

“All is well in Public Works” will remain a commemorative phrase.

Update on Darren Brown from Dessa.

…yesterday was so good. He was answering me yes and no through body language… If he hurt and things like that. I stayed at the hospital overnight. This morning he woke up slowly. Some tests were done and put them into panic mode as he was having anxiety most of the day. Panicking when he could not breathe. Yesterday, I could talk him down. Today they were giving him anxiety medication, Xanax. He was more sleepy today. He’s on schedule and doing good just not backing off the machines as quickly as they wanted to.

Update on Darren Brown

Edited on July 28th 12:33 a.m. , I have left a few things out in the details about his quote unquote machines and Vital Information, he has had an impella put in his leg and has another device that has two going into his heart and lungs to help get the extra needed Force to do the work for his heart, so it can heal while it is resting and letting the machines do the work.

An Update on Darren Brown 🙏❤️Darren has been through two major procedures. First, they successfully cleared out some buildup in his fourth lobe using a small camera and instrument. Second, he had an Impella device placed in his leg for circulation, and 2 going straight into his heart and lungs, it gave his heart the extra help he needs to heal.

all three were put in place back on Wednesday or Thursday. The one in his left leg has unfortunately caused both clotting and bleeding issues. Because of his naturally high red blood cell count, it's been a very delicate balancing act—the device was trying to clot, but blood thinners caused him to bleed, so he has been receiving blood and plasma.

To resolve this, his second procedure today at 5:00 PM was to remove the Impella device from his left leg. The doctors called me for permission right before, but I have not heard back yet on the status. I am hoping no news is good news.

I see every single message that comes in, and I deeply appreciate everyone who has reached out, offered to help around the house, or shared kind words about what a wonderful person Darren is. Thank you so much.

Please do not take it personally if I don't reply to texts or calls for a few days, as I am running on very little sleep and have been incredibly busy managing everything.

Because I cannot manage two phones right now, all updates will come directly from me. I will either be posting on my personal page and tagging him, or posting on his page and tagging myself, just to keep everything in one place.

I have been praying tonight for God to protect him, make him strong, and bring him safely home to me. Please keep the prayers coming. I need him home, and I hope someday soon he is back to read all of your beautiful messages. Thank you all. ✨

I had to post it, this is one of my favorite pictures of him. Please keep thoughts, strength and prayers for his son Farren Brown, soon to be first grandson with his namesake ( Darren Lynn Brown - he was not aware of the name but hopefully subconsciously or while I was speaking to him he heard it), stepsons - Levi Cooper ( his daughter and Darren stepdaughter Waylynn) and Adam Cooper and his two step daughters Tilly and Evie, and his extended family.

Also his mother Karen Brown Soden and I will be going up there tomorrow for a in person update. I will try to make a post of what we find out once again thank you everyone I am truly indebted to everyone.
