Posture of the Week: Locust Pose
(Salabhasana)

Locust Pose is a prone strengthening posture performed lying face down while lifting one leg at a time away from the floor.

The pelvis remains grounded as the muscles of the back body actively lift and support the movement.

The posture develops strength, stability, and awareness throughout the posterior chain.

A healthy backbend is not created by collapsing backward.

Ahhh shavasana…
This posture may feel like a reward at the end of an hour long class, but it is so much more than that!
During shavasana you learn to allow your body and mind to rest. You practice stillness which can be harder than it looks sometimes, but brings peace throughout your entire mind and body and a space you can take with you.
Start with 5 minutes a day and let us know how you feel!

Sherry Burnett will guide this 2-hour Yoga Shapeshifting class (don’t worry, it’s not 2 hours of yoga, you will see demonstrations and have a chance to learn the practice). Sherry has more than 300 hours of training with Mary Jarvis and is excited to introduce more people to Yoga Shapeshifting.

Our posture of the week and cues to help guide
Cue #1 (Sensation-Based):
Feel your weight centered over the toes as you begin to lower, maintaining balance throughout the descent.

Cue #2 (Structure-Based):
Keep your chest lifted as you descend, avoiding the tendency to collapse forward.

Two Cues That Help Triangle pose as we reach towards the end of the week!

Cue #1 — Internal (Sensation-Based):
Feel both legs working equally. Stabilize through the front leg and engage the back glutes to ground into the floor.

Cue #2 — External (Structure-Based):
Keep your chest rotating upward rather than collapsing forward, as if opening toward the ceiling.
