Pecos and I are heading South to Ft Worth and out of the snowy weather tomorrow afternoon. Pecos is as ready as he is going to be. He said goodbye to his new friend, Sue Gentle, yesterday. Sue is an accomplished dressage instructor that we met a few weeks ago. Sue is a big fan of Pecos. EMM Ft Worth, here we come!

Pecos' first trim with our farrier, Chris. Pecos did great! Next step is the equine dentist.
I would like to thank Angie Cardenaz and Rhonda Ritter Morris for a successful weekend helping Pecos work through his issues of being in open spaces.
Angie - Your place is great and your insight with horses is appreciated. Laying Pecos down worked wonders.
Rhonda - Thanks for taking the videos!
I look forward to seeing you both in the near future.
Glory is photo bombing Pecos with her tail. The background noise is our neighbor flying a model airplane.

Pecos is working very hard getting used to his saddle.

Day 16 - Pecos is saddled up and ready to go.

Day 7 - Pecos' defensive posturing is fading. We made great progress with a saddle blanket tonight. Pecos was losing his mind with the saddle blanket just hanging on the fence panel near him. Fifteen minutes later, he was wearing it. Good boy!
Pecos is trying very hard to accept humans and that inevitable touch. Contrary to what my prior experience has been, Pecos is much more accepting of being touched while confined to a small area. Yesterday's exercise was to brush out and condition his mane and tail. I was also able to curry comb his upper body. He calmly accepted the fly spray, including his legs and feet. I can't wait to work with him tonight!

Today, we worked with tarps and leading in the round pen. The horse's name is Pecos. Pecos is named after the famed folklore character Pecos Bill. Pecos Bill used a rattlesnake to lasso a twister and ride the twister to California.
