Thanks so much to all the folks that came out to get Draper trimmed up last weekend. I think we got through about 85% of the trail. This is a team effort and I couldn't have done it without all the awesome volunteers. Mark Wilcoxen, Dylan Willett, Don Jonason, Pam Johnson, Shane Jones, Melanie Jonason, Gregory Grosshars, Brian Urquhart, Herbert Gomez, James Wright, Adam R., Pete Singleton, Nathan W. Paula McGuinness Kelly, Gerald Kelly, Kirk Fraser, Troy Wolfe, Chellsea Weisser, Ethan Kohnen, and someone who's name I can't read :).
Draper Trail day this Saturday (8/28) @ 0800. Bring anything you need to come help get everything cut and trimmed. Thanks in advance!
Work day update: We had 3 volunteers that were not trail bosses (Bill Denton and Nick Grba are the best) show up yesterday for the Draper work day. Thank you so much to LaRetta, Peter, and Stan for coming out to help. Just showing up means a huge amount.
We did what we could, but with almost 12 miles of trail needing a serious amount of work, especially after all the rain, I'm not sure we made much of a dent in what needs to be done.
That being said, I guess this is a reality check for me. I had grandiose dreams of getting everything cut, doing some dirt work to address parts of the rampant erosion, and cleaning up some of the roots that need to be removed. It seems not many folks shared wanting to get the trail in better shape. I had enough work planned and equipment on-site to keep at least 30 people busy for multiple hours. Draper and most of the other trails in the OKC metro are 100% volunteer efforts. And when no one volunteers, things don't get done. No dig, no ride.
TLDR- The new normal at Draper is probably overgrown. I'll do what I can when I can, but I have a full-time career and am in school so there's no way I alone can keep up. If you want to help address this, please reach out. [email protected]
