We Don’t All See the Same
One of the first things we discover in life is that people don't always see things the same way we do.
You can see it in children arguing about whether the ball was in or out, or friends convinced that their favorite candy is the best. As we grow older, the situations become more important, but the experience remains the same. People often see the same event differently.
Our perspective is the story we tell ourselves about what we've seen, heard, or experienced. That story matters because it's how we've made sense of the situation.
The other person's story matters too.
Having different perspectives doesn't have to lead to conflict. More often than not, conflict begins when we become convinced that our story is the only story worth hearing.
One of the greatest ways we show respect for another person is by listening with the goal of understanding. We don't have to agree with every perspective, but we can respect the person enough to genuinely seek to understand their story.
This week, when you find yourself seeing a situation differently than someone else, pause for a moment before responding. Ask yourself, "I wonder what story they're seeing that I'm not." Sometimes that one question is enough to change the direction of a conversation.
I'd love for you to continue on this journey with me. And if this reflection connects with your own experience, I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts. Feel free to share this reflection with others if you think it might help someone else.

If conflict is a normal part of life, an important question naturally follows:
Where does conflict come from?
Many conflicts begin when we encounter differences with other people. We may see things differently, hold different values, have different needs, or carry different expectations. These differences are part of being human.
The differences themselves don't have to become conflict. More often than not, it's how we respond to those differences that determines whether relationships grow stronger or begin to break down.
Over the next few weeks, we'll take a closer look at four common sources of conflict and discover practical ways to navigate them with greater understanding and wisdom.
My hope is that these reflections will help us prevent unnecessary conflict, navigate unavoidable conflict, strengthen our relationships, and move forward.
I'd love for you to continue on this journey with me. And if one of these reflections connects with your own experience, I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts.
If this reflection helped you, perhaps someone else needs this stone today. Feel free to share it.

Today we begin a new series of short reflections on the theme of Navigating Conflict.
Why talk about conflict?
Because conflict is a normal part of life.
Every one of us experiences it in our families, at work, in our communities, and sometimes even within ourselves. If you're dealing with conflict today, you're not alone.
While we can learn important skills for preventing unnecessary conflict, we cannot eliminate conflict altogether. The question isn't whether conflict will come into our lives. The real question is how we choose to respond when it does.
Over the coming weeks, we'll explore practical principles that can help us prevent unnecessary conflict, navigate unavoidable conflict, strengthen our relationships, and move forward.
I hope you'll join me on this journey. And if one of these reflections connects with your own experience, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Over the next several weeks, I'd like to invite you to join me for a series of short reflections on navigating conflict.
Conflict is a normal part of life. Every one of us experiences it in our families, at work, in our communities, and sometimes even within ourselves. You're not alone in facing difficult conversations and challenging relationships.
Together, we'll explore why some conflict can be prevented and why learning to prevent unnecessary conflict is an important life skill. We'll also look at practical ways to navigate conflict that can't be avoided, with the goal of strengthening relationships and helping people move forward.
At Keiter Mediation, we believe that conflict doesn't have to define our relationships. When approached with wisdom, patience, and understanding, it can become an opportunity for growth, collaboration, and positive change.
I hope you'll join me each week for a brief reflection as we learn together how to navigate conflict in ways that strengthen relationships and help us move forward.

I love the message of this new commercial by Coca-Cola. It shows various groups of people in different settings living in harmony instead of division. Mediation is about helping people in dispute find common ground and work together to find solutions that benefit everyone!
