We are excited to be hosting the USA Softball National Umpire School in Kansas City. Instructors and Umpires from over 12 State and Metro Associations!! Kicked off with a great opening reception last night and this morning are off and running with a full day of classes and on field clinics! Huge thanks to Stacey Moore for hosting us at LSHS and Mary Mahoney and the KC Metro and Kansas Staff Members who have helped put this on.

Monday marked the 46th year opening day for Olathe Girls Softball Association. It was a very cold and windy night but the players all had fun and the umpires did an amazing job. From brand new umpires to 20+ year veterans calling 8U and 10U. That’s what it’s all about. Giving back to the game! Proud of our KC USA Umpires.
(Photo credits to Ricky Dunigan, a parent with an OGSA KC Peppers league team who took a lot of amazing shots that night).

Two weeks ago we completed our 5th training Night at the Kansas City Royals MLB Urban Youth Academy. 8 umpires went through the training, got registered, and are ready to go (2 weren’t able to make the picture night). Thanks to Casey at UYA.
Today we had our first training at OGSA for four of our newest umpires! These young ladies will be at a field near you soon. More training tomorrow. What else would you expect on a weekend “off”. Excited for all the new blues in KC Metro. Up to 20 brand new ones so far by my count!

USA Softball of Metro Kansas City had a very successful and exciting opening weekend for the 2021 season! The teams played well, the weather was gorgeous, the umpires umpired with excellence, and both days were filled with great times. Some things to point out.
Welcome to new umpires Kevin Hodges and Craig Elsmore. Kevin is a long time official in other sports and decided to take on softball this year. He’s attended multiple zoom trainings, 3 different in person clinics, and was chosen to work the 12U Championship Game today and got his first 3-Person game! Craig moved to KC from Texas and has been umpiring HS ball in Missouri. Craig did a great job and was chosen to work the 16/18 Championship today.
Welcome BACK to KC umpires Dennis Hill and Rachael Welsh. Both took last year off due to Covid. Both are a joy to be around, teams and coaches love them, and we are happy to have them back on the diamond.
What a great start to 2021!!

Sunday morning clinic yesterday at the Urban Youth Academy teaching 5 brand new umpires plate mechanics. Thanks to Umpire and Coach Jay for helping out, to Casey for arranging, and the Louisville Sluggers team and coaches for giving us live action during their practice. In the afternoon I headed to Topeka for the umpire clinic for USA Softball of Kansas. State UIC Tracy Kutscher put on a great clinic and it was well attended including 4 new umpires! Might even see some legends in these pics from Topeka!
