What is Drill Team?

In 2000, the UMaine Standardbred Drill was created to show and promote the sales of the university horses. All of the horses were donated to UMaine after their racing careers ended. Originally, the goal of the Drill Team was to retrain the horses to fit into forever homes, now we help them live comfortably in their retirement as they help us learn about equine sciences.

Hey y’all! Since 2026 is the new 2016, we’re bringing back Throwback Thursday!

For our first TBT, we will be honoring our late stallion Roadshow Hall. While he was with us, he helped students learn stallion handling in our equine labs. He lived to be 25 years old and is also the father of one of our current horses, Dixie! During his racing career, he earned $422,000 with a personal best of 1:57.2.

We miss and love you Roadshow 🩵💙🖤🤍

Happy 23rd birthday to our beloved Whiteout!! 🎉🥳 Wh**ey, one of our retired mares at Witter, loves teaching students in AVS 303 labs and soaking up all the attention!

Trail ride day 2 and we're crushing it! Okay, so maybe we took a wrong turn... or two (oops), but that just added to the adventure! Ended up accidentally on campus, but still had an amazing time with Felicity on Sara, Cece on Laney, Maddie on Suzie, Liv on Diva, and Haley on Gina! 🤣
