Thursday riders had fun learning to neck rein with Kala, cone patterns, & independent trot practice. We also welcomed new student Norah with an introductory lesson! 🤠
Today riders worked on crossing midline & balance, diagonal patterns & working with a new horse, and Claire’s first canter! 🐎
🤠Tuesday students are doing well with their trotting goals & patterns, working on feeling their horse and aiding in balance over poles, and Happy Birthday to Avery who began learning 10m circles tonight 🥳
Monday students had a lot of firsts! Elaina & Raylee cantered on Moon & Ronja, and Karis worked with Kala maintaining a posting trot through patterns & reviewed equine body parts. 🤠

A horse who looks away from you is not always disconnected.
Sometimes they are regulating.
Humans often imagine connection as eye contact.
Attention.
Engagement.
But horses are different.
Sometimes looking away is how they process.
How they think.
How they soften pressure.
How they stay present without becoming overwhelmed.
Yet so many of us have been taught to interpret those moments as disrespect.
"Pay attention."
"Focus."
"Don't ignore me."
But what if the horse isn't withdrawing from the relationship?
What if they're trying to stay in it?
I think one of the most beautiful things we can learn from horses is that connection does not always look like intensity.
Sometimes connection looks like space.
Sometimes it looks like a lowered head.
A deep breath.
Eyes turning away from pressure.
And sometimes the greatest gift we can offer another being is not more engagement.
It's enough safety that they don't have to stay hypervigilant to remain connected.

I have noticed an increase in ticks trail riding and in our general environment this year. Check your animals and persons thoroughly. We have had two past cases of Lyme disease, and one of Rickettsia from tick bites in our herd.

Thursday riders worked through bio-mechanics of mounting & dismounting as well as posting. They also practiced patterns while trotting, and walk-trot transitions for responsiveness and accurate cues.
