In an area full of barns, each with its own approach, riders’ needs vary just as widely. At Chastain Mist, my 47 years in the saddle and 36 years of teaching have shown me that great coaching is as much about mentoring as it is about riding. Some riders choose a competition path, others dream of making horses their profession. Still others are looking for something quieter, a therapeutic space to build confidence, find peace, and experience the unique partnership that horses offer. Every one of those paths is valued equally here. Our role isn’t to decide what success looks like for your rider, it’s to help them discover it for themselves. Some of my former students are now parents, bringing their own children through our gates. That kind of trust isn’t built in a season, it’s built over decades of consistency and care and relationships that last long after the riding lessons end. Our horses are true partners, cared for with exceptional nutrition, thoughtful conditioning, regular body work, and the very best management. Healthy, happy horses create confident riders. Our students learn these principles too. They don’t simply learn how to ride, they learn how to understand, respect, and care for the horse beneath them, Safety here isn’t a slogan, it’s woven through every decision we make. One of my greatest responsibilities is protecting a child’s confidence. Every lesson is carefully planned, every pairing is intentional. Every transition, from a child’s first walk to learning the trot, from trot to canter, and every milestone after that, is approached with patience and intention. We never rush the process. We never ask a child to prove their courage. When children feel safe, they become brave, and bravery opens up so much growth, not just in riding, but in life. Communication matters just as much. When you call, we answer. When you text, we respond. If plans change and you need to reschedule or, you just need a quick answer, we’re on it. We believe reliability and clear communication are part of the experience every family deserves. We offer group lessons, privates, summer camps, one-on-one groundwork and non-riding experiences, hands-on horsemanship education and training clinics, with individualized guidance for riders of every age and goal. If you’re looking for more than a riding lesson, if you want a place where horses come first, and confidence is protected, safety is intentional, and every rider is encouraged to follow the path that’s right for them, we would love to hear from you. Reach out, tell us about your rider, and we’ll help you find the best fit.
