What the heck is this coming to?
Rising Tide Karate
We teach traditional Wado-Ryu karate in Olympia, under the instruction of Joshua and Polly Cook.
Honestly even 5 minutes. If it takes less than that just do it.
Love him or hate him, this dude shoots straight.

Truth!
As a general rule, we don’t correct. We over-correct.
For the last decade or so, traditional martial arts have seen a welcome resurgence of “practical” karate: karate with teeth, karate with pressure, karate with a utilitarian purpose in the development of real skills of violence.
That correction was needed.
But, of course, as a species, we rarely stop at better. We swing. We lurch. We flee one error so violently that we crash into another.
Now, for some, rank is meaningless. Lineage is foolish. Language is cosplay. Etiquette is cult-like. Culture is baggage. Anything inherited must be suspect, and anything not immediately useful in a fight must be burned away.
But a thing can be practical without being stripped of its soul. A tradition can be functional without becoming sterile. A bow can be respect without being worship. A rank can be responsibility without being ego. A lineage can be context without being a prison.
There is a middle ground, but society has little patience for it. Nature abhors a vacuum. Society abhors a moderate.
“Pick a side,” they say. No thanks.
I’ll keep the useful. I’ll pressure-test the questionable. I’ll discard the false.
And I’ll honor the things that carried the art this far, even as I try to make it better.
So good. “If you teach your child to avoid conflict you are teaching the world to give them conflict.” Best to teach it in the safety of the home from people who love you
