💙 Wellness Wednesday 💙

Cardio and circuit training are great ways to improve heart health, increase energy, and support balance and mobility at any age.

One helpful tool during exercise is heart rate tracking. Watching your heart rate can help you stay in a safe and effective range while getting the most benefit from your workout.

Heart rate tracking can help you exercise smarter — not just harder. Remember, every step, pedal, and movement counts toward a healthier heart and stronger body. Keep moving and keep taking care of YOU! ❤️

💪 Member Monday: Meet Donna 💪

At 77 years young, Donna is proving it’s never too late to start strength training!

For over a year, Donna regularly asked our Buena Vista YMCA training staff questions about strength training before finally deciding to give our Functional Strength class a try. Now, after a couple months of lifting heavier loads — she has the same message week after week:

“I wish I had done this years ago!”

Donna’s story is a reminder that building strength improves confidence, energy, balance, and everyday life at any age. We are so proud of her commitment and progress!

👏 Help us celebrate Donna in the comments below!

💚 Friendship Friday 💚

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and one of the most important things we can do for our mental well-being is stay connected with others.

At the YMCA, connection happens every day — through group fitness classes, friendly conversations in the lobby, youth programs, volunteer opportunities, and supportive communities that help people feel seen and valued. A simple smile, workout partner, or shared experience can make a meaningful difference.

You are never alone at the Y. Together, we build stronger spirits, healthier minds, and a more connected community.

💦May is National Water Safety Month, and our newest blog post is live.

There’s a unique side of motherhood that happens around water. The fun parts are easy to love. The harder parts—you never really turn them off.

As both an aquatics professional and mom, Ashley—our association support director of aquatics—shares a few of the water safety reminders she carries with her for every water adventure: https://metroymca.org/phones-down-eyes-up

Because around water, the smallest moments of attention can make the biggest difference.
