A Little Space Yoga & Tai Chi is a space for you — a place that offers you space and support for you to breathe and remember who you truly are.

Many people arrive at their first Yoga or Tai Chi class in search of something. It might be more flexibility, strength, or balance, or improved health and wellness, or peace and calm, or happiness, or even love and acceptance. We are all searching for something, always it seems, in our lives. Whatever it is for you, the search is not outside of yourself; it is within. Everything you need is there!

When walking around the National Mall, please remember to drink plenty of water and eat snacks. We recommend drinking at least one cup of water every 15 minutes and taking regular breaks inside or in the shade throughout the day. The sun is typically strongest between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm and D.C. humidity levels can make it feel even hotter. Heat stress and heat stroke can be extremely dangerous, so know the symptoms and take precautions. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable visit.

The depths of yoga are to be found inside, not outside.

In a world that celebrates speed, productivity, and constant stimulation, Restorative Yoga offers something radically different: permission to pause.

When we lie down and support the body completely, the nervous system begins to soften. The breath slows. The mind becomes quieter. We remember that rest is not a luxury, it is part of our natural rhythm.

Restorative Yoga is not about doing more. It is about learning to be present for this moment, exactly as it is.

Self-compassion is key to a happy and fulfilling life. Here are five practical ways to be kind to yourself:

1 - Ask yourself what you need: Acknowledge that your needs are valid.

2 - Validate your pain: Recognize and accept your emotional experience.

3 - Remember you aren’t alone: We all struggle; you’re not isolated in your challenges.

4 - Honor your humanity: Being human means being imperfect.

5 - Treat yourself like you would treat a friend: Be supportive and helpful toward yourself.

Caregiving is beyond exhausting and not always appreciated. In fact, it is easy to become burned out, maybe even before you realize you have even become a caregiver.

If you are a caregiver, I very much recommend this class and these people. The class is free.

Many caregivers just need a soft place to fall and let go and kind people to see and hear them. Remembering your own self-care in the midst of caring for others can be challenging if not, sometimes, impossible. Find people who believe in and want to support you.

The class starts today, but you could attend all or any part of it. They will understand.

Powerful Tools 6-week class STARTS TODAY 1-3PM!
As part of the Self Care Support Group: A free 6-week class, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, will be offered Tuesdays from June 2 through July 7, 1–3 PM here at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. This program helps caregivers reduce stress, improve communication, and care for themselves while caring for others. Contact Ruth Bitter 402-650-7132 to register.

Give yourself patience, give yourself forgiveness. This year has been overwhelming, and just because you need to slow down doesn’t change your worth. You are not a burden.

Be kind to yourself. 💙
