What does it really mean to wear a black belt?

For many people outside the martial arts, the black belt is seen as the end of the journey. But those who train in martial arts know the truth — it is only the beginning.

A black belt is not something that should be bought.
It is something that must be earned.

It represents discipline, maturity, responsibility, and a commitment to something larger than yourself. More importantly, it represents a role: mentor, teacher, and example for others.

In Lesson #2 of the Martial Arts Leadership Series, I explore the deeper meaning of the black belt and the responsibility that comes with wearing it.
