Finding How to Connect with Someone
Not every client is “that perfect client”. A gal in her mid-60s came to us and was referred by another good client. She had recently been diagnosed with celiac disease, was struggling with weight loss, energy level and just not feeling well. She was very thin, and always complained about the cold. She was also worried about her bone strength and didn’t want to hurt in any way. She was the kind of client where even her facial expressions expressed her discomfort. The mental part is just as important as the exercise and I had to find a way to help her see that she had options. Aside from the benefits of exercise, I believe this is partly what SuperSlow Zone is about: finding how to connect with someone. She started sharing her experiences with treatment for her disease and I saw my opportunity open. I could relate due to challenging and similar personal experiences of my own. “Just breath and relax,” I’d say. It still took several months to convince her to stay, but she stuck with it and with me. She’s no longer frail, she’s laughing, and she’s enjoying what she is doing for herself.

The Simplest Thing: “It’s Easy Because I Believe in it.”
The simplest thing Julie said, “It’s easy because I believe in it.” Not many people can say that, but Julie can. “I believe in this workout and the benefits. I believe in what it’s done for me and proud that it can do those things for others.” This is how she describes SuperSlow Zone and her motivation for doing the job. Anyone out there looking for that elusive sense of purpose should know what Julie has is special. She wakes up every day, capable of telling herself with irrefutable truth that she believes in what she is giving to others . . . and it’s her job. “I love what I’m doing and I love my team!” Julie’s love and passion for her work reflects her business and the people around her. Finding your lot in life isn’t easy, but Julie gets to be one of those rare, select few who has, and she is incredibly grateful for it.

Skeptical Jim Finds a Way to Do Yard work Again
Despite his wife being a client for 3 years, Jim remained extremely reluctant to come into the studio. Only 65, I couldn’t understand Jim’s hesitancy, especially with his wife’s years of success. I figured out that Jim was afraid that there might be a little competition there between them! Then Jim changed his mind after his yardwork became too painful. He loves taking care of his yard and is very proud of it. Above anything else, Jim wanted to keep doing yardwork for the exercise too. He was a bit negative at first, but after some hard work (and some coaxing) Jim really showed his grit. Now he’s doing 300 lbs. on the leg press and easily doing the yard work he truly loves without too much effort. SuperSlow Zone is many things, interpreted differently by everyone. Sometimes it’s an aid, sometimes it becomes a passion, and other times it’s just a means to an end. As long as you’re getting what you want from it who am I to argue? Jim was skeptical, but gave SSZ a chance. It was a conduit towards regaining his life and control over what he loves: yardwork and the great outdoors.

Mina is Traveling to Japan to Show Off Her Muscles
Mina is an early riser and is often up even before the worm . . . or the eager bird anxious to catch it! Thankfully, Mina and I are both early risers, so scheduling works out for us both. She’s is always the first client to come in and has been doing the workout twice a week for over a year. She is very classy, very intelligent, and follows instructions very well. She’s refreshing to be around and a great start to my day! Mina started coming due to general aches and pains from the aging process. After 1 year, her aches and pains don’t bother her anymore and she is playing tennis again! Mina says it’s been life changing for her, and I couldn’t be happier for Mina. Well, that’s until I found out that she’s now planning a trip to Japan to visit her family, and is looking forward to showing off her muscles!

She Wanted to Lose Weight, She Wanted to End the Stress
People come into SuperSlow Zone and get started from all sorts of places. Marge, for instance, came to us really stressed out from working in IT for an insurance company. She had mental, emotional, and physical stress, but the biggest one for Marge was the physical. She had more excess weight than she would have cared for and compelled herself to lose the weight and get stronger. She is in her mid-50s but you wouldn’t know that now. She has become a huge part of our studio, bringing in 2 more clients since first starting herself. She’s strong, she’s lost weight, and she’s earned herself a clearer, less stressed mind. The physical changes are always welcomed, but the release of mental stress goes further than most realize. Marge has signed up for nutrition classes since, in addition to strength training 2 times a week, and can hardly believe how effective SSZ has been – she never would have guessed. Finding something that brings about true change doesn’t happen for many, but Marge worked very hard for it and has improved her self-perception and greatly lowered her stress level.

Marge Isn’t Waiting for Her Husband, She’s Strong as an Ox
Marge desperately wanted to lay fresh mulch down around her house, and this was something her husband normally helped her with since the bags weighed about 50 lbs. each and they had to be loaded into the car. Unfortunately, Marge’s husband got sick the same weekend they planned to mulch their yard, but that didn’t stop her. So, on a warm sunny weekend Marge’s husband watched her through a window of their home witnessing his wife transform into a borderline pack mule. She did absolutely everything herself: she lifted every bag into the car, laid them all out, and leveled them. I mentioned the fact that each bag weighs nearly 50 lbs., but did I mention that Marge is in her mid-50s?! Needless to say, Marge is incredibly strong. She’s been coming to SuperSlow Zone for over a year and shows some of the most impressive improvements I’ve ever seen. She can lift over 300 lbs. on the leg press! She calls SSZ the ‘complete package’ and loves coming in. One day she says she hopes to get her husband into our SuperSlow Zone studio, and I’m sure her recent yard work and heavy lifting is solid reason why he just might consider SSZ too!

I Already Believed in SSZ, so Becoming an Instructor was Easy

My mom started working out at SuperSlow Zone, so I decided I wanted to come too. After the consultation and sample workout, I was impressed and was eager to learn more. My mom needed to get on good routine with her fibromyalgia, so her reason to continue was simple. I on the other hand, was merely intrigued by the concept that 20 minutes of exercise a week could really help improve your health and strength. I believed in it more every day. In fact, I came to believe in SSZ’s protocols so much that became an instructor myself.

I knew the owner, Julie Beard, from years and years ago, and she made the whole process so easy. SSZ became even more to me after I got hired. It was already something I believed in, Julie being my boss was just icing on the cake, but what really made SSZ special to me was helping people. The process of helping people gain confidence to move and feel better is a reward every day that I walk into the studio. I’ve working as an instructor for about a year, and I’m only just beginning.

SuperSlow Zone and the Airplane Bathroom

Strength pokes its awkward head out in some pretty bizarre places. I have a client who told me a story I will never forget that involves hygiene and the importance of leg strength. It begins with her being a frequent flier.

For anyone who gives two cents worth about hygiene, you NEVER want to sit on anything in an airplane’s restroom facilities. For most, a sound strategy involves the action of hovering over the facility throne. My client expressed how she gradually lost her strength, not fully realizing the severity of such a loss till she could no longer hover. In a quest for improving strength and proper hygiene, she found us at SuperSlow Zone. By coming in twice a week, determined in performing our exercising with accuracy and focus, my client showed tremendous increase in leg strength, total body strength, and overall health. Jokingly (although, I feel she’s completely serious), she thanks SSZ every day for allowing her to use the airplane bathroom again.

The Simple Things are Precious

It’s reward in simple things that make you realize the preciousness of life. Roxanne, who’s in her early 60s, experienced this. It all starts with her rheumatoid arthritis.

Roxanne was experiencing pain from her arthritis and wanted something to help. Through former coworkers, she discovered our SuperSlow Zone studio. She started coming twice a week and couldn’t believe the results. She told me how her arthritis had gotten so bad that she couldn’t even enjoy herself when it was time to enjoy herself. Now she can enjoy herself with ease and get through her day-to-day with no pain.

The simple thing that truly wowed Roxanne involved a walk on the beach. Every year she vacations to Mexico with her husband, and keeping up with him in the sand had become difficult. However, the next time that vacation rolled around after SSZ, she noticed a huge difference. SSZ helped Roxanne get stronger and enjoy something as simple as a walk on the beach with her husband.

Who Knew I’d be the One Surprised at a Client’s Birthday Party

Just turned 70 and healthy as a horse. You’d never know Walter’s age or how he battled leukemia several years ago. He’s gained so much muscle mass and flexibility since starting at SuperSlow Zone. This is all thanks to finding us in something simple as a local magazine. He started 2 years ago and hasn’t looked back since.

Walter is the kind of client you want 20 more of, as well. He never complains, focuses on doing things slow and steady, and is the model of consistent. He comes in to do exactly what he needs to do and is a pleasure to work with. In fact, Walter and I became on such good terms that I even went to his 70th birthday party. He surprised me further by crediting SSZ for a large portion of his recovery. Getting to help people get healthier is always rewarding, but hearing your impact firsthand is a remarkable feeling. Walter is a genuine, kind human being, and deserves everything he has achieved at SSZ.
