Reminder for the 2026 deer season!

For the 2025 deer season, changes were made to the boundaries of the deer management units (DMUs) in the Northern and Central Forest zones. Minor changes were also made to metropolitan sub-unit boundaries. The Farmland Zone units were not reviewed, but a few of the boundaries were modified because of other changes made to the forest zones.

DMUs in both Northern and Central Forest zones are labeled with a number (as opposed to a county name), and the Farmland Zone DMUs will still be denoted by their county names.

Hunters will need to know their management zone and DMU number/county when purchasing an authorization/license or registering their deer in their Go Wild account.

We encourage hunters to consult the most recent Deer Management Unit Map, shown here and also available on our Deer Hunting webpage, before purchasing a deer hunting license: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/hunt/deer

As a conservation organization, most of our members are hunters and many of them are deer hunters. Not everyone has their own deer herd to manage and wild deer can travel a long distance during the rut. However, even on public land or the smaller acreage you hunt - you may be able to improve your odds of getting better deer over the years.

The research summary states that antler development is the product of 3 main things - nutrition, age and genetics. It's possible to improve the nutritional quality of browse on the range thru food plots and plantings & we can improve the age of the herd by not shooting younger deer. Improving the genetics is more difficult.

The research by Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. concludes that harvesting yearling spikes and allowing forked yearlings to live can increase the odds in favor of more mature deer with better antler development.

Read the article and make your own conclusions, then do or do not as you see fit.

We are planning on selling amm0 at our August 11th meeting. Since we have 7 different calibers of amm0 members present at the meeting will be given a ticket for each caliber they are interested in purchasing. We will pick a ticket out of the hat for purchasing order.

For example, if there are 6 individuals interested in 454 Casull ammo, weโ€™ll give each of the 6 a ticket. We only have 5 boxes. Weโ€™ll draw names from a hat. First drawn will be allowed to buy a box of 454 amm0 at the stated price. Next drawn will get 2nd choice. Last drawn will get no opportunity if the 5 boxes are purchased by the first 5 drawn.
Weโ€™ll repeat each caliber.

Check your email for a list of calibers, manufacturers and cost. Cash or check ONLY and you must be there to w!n.
