For many Americans, September 11 is a memory of exactly where they were when the world changed. For younger generations, it is a day they know through the stories we pass down. For the families who lost someone, it is an absence they live with every day.
On this 25th anniversary, we hold those families in our hearts. We remember the lives taken in New York, at the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We honor the courage of first responders, passengers, coworkers, and strangers who tried to save others.
We also remember those whose service and survival came with lasting wounds, and those we have lost in the years since to illnesses connected to that day.
From our community in Oneonta, we offer a simple promise: their lives still matter, their stories deserve to be told, and their loved ones are not forgotten.
May we carry that remembrance into the way we treat one another.
