She thought it would just be her. She looked up and had a whole staff.
Arrie Simpson built The Heart of Counseling & Wellness PLLC into a group practice of seven therapists — and then turned around and founded Josephine’s Way, a nonprofit dedicated to making sure nobody has a reason not to get the mental health care they need.
In this episode she gets real about the loneliness of leadership, her own journey with imposter syndrome and rejection, why Black women absolutely can work together, and why healing is always done in community.
This one hits different.

She walked into a room full of men who asked,
“What qualifies you to be here?”
She fixed the locomotive they couldn’t… and kept going.

She was told no by every bank.
Her contractor took her money and disappeared.
Then COVID hit — right before she was supposed to open her doors.
But Oladoyin (Doyin) Ajilore didn’t quit.
She put her home up as collateral, paid eight employees to stay home just to protect her license, and kept a promise she made to a cousin she lost to leukemia.
The result?
Dreamers Academy and Dreamers Academy II — two Black-owned early childhood education centers built on resilience, purpose, and community.
Her story is powerful.
Her journey is real.
And this conversation will stay with you.

Today feels like the perfect day to share something that is incredibly close to my heart.
In honor of International Women’s Day, I am officially launching the new season of I Swear I’m An Introvert. 🎙️
I created this podcast because I believe our little brown girls deserve to see women who look like them building businesses, leading communities, and walking boldly in who they were created to be.
This platform celebrates Black women entrepreneurs, leaders, and visionaries who are creating impact and legacy every single day.
While this podcast proudly celebrates Black women, the message is for every woman who has ever questioned if she was enough, ready enough, or bold enough to pursue her purpose.
The truth is… you already are.
