Unfortunately, this weekend wasn’t the outcome we were hoping for when we entered the tournament. But there were still a lot of positives to take away. We watched our girls accomplish objectives and complete assignments we’ve been working on in practice. We were tested, and we tested other teams as well.

We picked up some good wins, but our tournament run ended with a tough semifinal loss to a talented Mojo team. That’s softball. Sometimes a few mistakes can be the difference between moving on and going home. We’ve been on both sides of that coin this season.

Around here, we don’t measure anything as a failure. Every challenge is just another stepping stone in building strong, resilient athletes. We’ll head back to the lab this week, where we’re fortunate enough to practice on a Division I softball field, lock back in on our fundamentals, and prepare for an even bigger tournament this coming weekend. 🔥🔥

The grind continues. The progress continues.

And let me say this—if we were winning championships every single weekend, then we probably wouldn’t be pushing ourselves enough. We play tough competition because that’s how you grow.

Our heads will stay high, and we’ll keep fighting until the umpire calls ball game.🥎

After a very long day at the ballpark yesterday, we came up just short in a tough championship battle against a talented 2031 team. We finished the tournament as runners-up and went 4-3 on the weekend.

Honestly, you had to be there to understand what really took place! 🤯

Our girls were challenged throughout pool play, and it led to us earning one of the lowest seeds in the bracket. In our final pool game, we got smacked in the mouth. The team we faced took advantage of us being off our game and flat-out outplayed us. It wasn’t pretty!!

After that game, we had a long team discussion. Not the kind where coaches rant for an hour, but a true heart-to-heart where every player had a chance to speak and be heard. You had to be in that huddle to know exactly what was said, but I can tell you it was one of the best team talks we’ve had all season.

Once the bracket started, it was simple: play ball or go home.

Our first bracket game was against a solid team from Illinois, and the girls responded in a big way. We took care of business and won 5-0.

The next game was an absolute battle against a 2031 Fusion squad. It went into extra innings and ended with a huge double play to seal the win. At one point, we escaped a bases-loaded, no-outs situation without allowing a run. It was one of those games that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Final score: 3-2.

In the semifinals, we faced another Fusion team, this time one our own age. Every time we play them, it’s a dogfight. We jumped out to an early lead, set the tone, and never looked back, winning 2-1. Also, another huge double play to seal the deal!

Then came the championship game.

If you had seen how our day started, you probably wouldn’t have believed we’d be playing for a title. But this group never quit. They kept fighting, kept believing, and earned their spot.

The championship was a battle from the first pitch. We traded punches early and found ourselves leading 4-2 in the top of the third inning. The momentum was on our side, and you could feel a Cinderella story starting to unfold.

Unfortunately, a few small mistakes swung the momentum back the other way. The other team capitalized and put together a big inning, scoring five runs and eventually taking the championship 7-4.

While we didn’t bring home the trophy, this team showed something special. They got knocked down, responded, battled through adversity, and fought their way all the way to the championship game.

I’m proud of every single one of these girls. Sometimes the biggest victories don’t end with rings. Sometimes they’re found in the way a team responds when things aren’t going their way.

We’ll learn from it, grow from it, and be ready for the next one.
