The Downtown Orlando YMCA is part of the YMCA of Central Florida and serves as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community by connecting children, teens, adults, and seniors to their potential, purpose, and each other. Our Downtown Orlando YMCA family center has been a community hub located on historic Mills Avenue since the 1960s! Nowadays, you’ll enjoy features like a two-story addition, ample spaces in our parking lot, expansions to the aerobics areas and locker rooms, as well as added family changing rooms. As a leading nonprofit, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone has a place to learn, grow, and thrive.

📢 UPDATE #3: GOOD NEWS, Y! 💙

The Downtown Orlando YMCA will reopen TONIGHT at 6 PM!

Please note that all programs, including sports, group exercise classes, childcare, and clubs, are canceled for this evening.

🏊 Swim Team Update: Practice will be held at the Leonard & Marjorie Williams YMCA from 5:45–6:45 PM.

Here’s what will be available tonight:

* 💪 Wellness floor, including the Ronnie Walker Room, Functional Training Room, Weight Room and Upstairs Workout area
* 🏀 Basketball court for flex gym hours
* 🚻 Bathrooms and family changing rooms

Please note these temporary closures:

* 🏊 Pool will remain closed this evening and is scheduled to reopen at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, October 21.
* 🚫 Both men’s and women’s locker rooms will remain closed until further notice.

🚨 DOWNTOWN ORLANDO YMCA CLOSURE UPDATE

At this time, we have made the decision to cancel all programs for the remainder of today. This includes swim lessons, swim team, sports practices, childcare, and group fitness classes.

📍 Howard Before & After School Families: Students will remain supervised on-site at Howard Middle School this afternoon. They will NOT be returning to the YMCA.

Please continue monitoring our social media for updates on when the Downtown Orlando YMCA facility will reopen.

The Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy Scholarship is helping local high school seniors take the next step toward their future! The YMCA of Central Florida, the Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy family, the Southwest Orlando Community Foundation (formerly the Southwest Orlando Jaycees), the City of Orlando and community partners are awarding multiple scholarships to students pursuing post-secondary education in Fall 2027.

Applicants will be evaluated on academic achievement, volunteerism, leadership, extracurricular involvement and their essay.

You may have noticed the pool temperatures changing slightly and that’s because we officially switch our pools over on October 19 at the Downtown Orlando YMCA! 💦

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, the YMCA of Central Florida’s Hispanic Latino Leadership Network (HLLN) came together at Orlando City Hall for the 20th City of Orlando Hispanic Heritage Month Art Exhibition.

Featuring 27 local artists inspired by this year’s theme, “Unidos, Somos Más,” the exhibition was a beautiful celebration of the history, culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

When we invest in families, we strengthen our entire community. 🥕 💙

Through the generous support of the Winn-Dixie Give Back Foundation and the Florida State Alliance of YMCAs, the YMCA of Central Florida was able to turn grant funding into meaningful support for families across Central Florida.

Because of this investment, we were able to:

🛒 Provide grocery gift cards to all 15 YMCA Family Centers and Learning Centers, giving staff the opportunity to support families connected to the Y who were experiencing a need.

🥫 Support the Seminole County Department of Health and The Sharing Center’s food distribution, serving 70 families.

📦 Stock 5 community food pantries at Lancaster Elementary School, Oakridge Neighborhood Center, OCPS ACE, Total Restoration Transformation Center, and CBM Community Cares Outreach.

🥦 Attend the MIND Your Health Event in Parramore, providing fresh produce to 50 families and donating the remaining produce to the Boys & Girls Club to continue supporting youth and families throughout the day.

🚌 Through Y on the Fly, incorporate nutrition education, enrichment, and access to fresh food into our fall programming at M.I.L.L.S. Child Development Center, South Orlando Head Start, Central Florida YMCA Learning Center, Washington Shores Primary Learning Center, and Kidzville Academy over 5 weeks.

❤️ Partner with Cru Inner City to provide meal cards and canned goods for their annual Boxes of Love, supporting inner-city churches as they prepare Thanksgiving meal boxes for families in their communities.

🍎 Close out our food distribution efforts at Lake Buena Vista Learning Center, providing food support to 100 VPK students and their families.

This grant was more than funding—it was an opportunity to meet families where they are, put food on tables, support children, strengthen community partners, and create access to resources when they were needed most.

We are incredibly grateful to the Winn-Dixie Give Back Foundation and the YMCA Florida Alliance for believing in the power of community and giving us the opportunity to make an even greater impact.

Together, we’re helping build stronger families, healthier communities, and a stronger Central Florida. 💙🥕
