These tips can help ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for families during the summer in Orlando.

1. Supervision: Always ensure that a responsible adult is supervising children while they are swimming, even if they are strong swimmers.

2. Swim Lessons: Enroll your children in swim lessons to help them develop strong swimming skills and learn water safety techniques.

3. Pool Barriers: Install barriers, such as fences with self-latching gates, around your pool to prevent unsupervised access by children.

4. Life Jackets: Ensure young children or inexperienced swimmers wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets while in or around water.

5. Learn CPR: Adults should be trained in CPR to be prepared in case of an emergency. Immediate response can save lives.

6. Hydration: Keep everyone hydrated, as the Florida sun can lead to dehydration quickly. Drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade.

7. Sun Protection: Apply waterproof sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and reapply every two hours or after swimming. Wear hats and UV-protective swimwear.

8. Check the Weather: Be aware of weather conditions. Avoid swimming during thunderstorms or heavy rain due to the risk of lightning.

9. Buddy System: Encourage swimming in pairs or groups. Having a buddy ensures that someone can call for help if needed.

10. Know Your Limits: Teach children to know their swimming limits and to avoid pushing themselves too hard, especially in open water where currents can be strong.
