It’s been 11 years since you passed away and I still think of you everyday. At 18 years old I came in to your golf shop in Bluefield while I was in a very dark place. Watching you be a true old school do it all “pro” that made everyone’s day better and the sense of purpose you had was inspiring to me. Watching you give lessons on the old green mat and net in the back of the shop and seeing your interactions with your students planted a dream in my head that I was afraid to tell anyone about it seemed so ridiculous. Seeing the swing sequences cut out of old Golf Digest magazines on the wall of Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus with their coaches, I knew in my heart that I had to find a way to do that for a living. I remember the first time I told you I wanted to come to FL and be the best teacher in the world, and you didn’t hesitate in telling me I could do it. When other people made fun of me or laughed behind my back you always were so supportive to a kid that really needed something, anything positive to hold on to and I’ll never forget it. At 35 years old now, I still feel like that kid sometimes and I still find comfort in all the advice you gave me and the time you spent with me. I’ll be teaching on Tour soon one way or another and I know you’ll be standing there with me. Keep watching over me my man. Love you Barry.

Very excited to be using technology for my coaching going forward. I was taught as a young coach the importance of measuring instead of guessing. Today would have been your 95th birthday. I think about you everyday and I will keep my promise I made to you. The years have been hard without you, especially the last couple, but I feel your strength and love with me. I’m taking care of Mom and Drew like you asked. I know you and Nana are watching over us and I promise I’m not going to let him hurt my Mom or anyone in our family ever again. I’ll be coaching on Tour soon and I’ll make sure everyone is taken care of. You taught me what a man really is and I’ll carry that with me everyday. I love you Gran. I know you are watching.

Last month I had the privilege to coach at the first ever golf school. After 17 years coaching the best players in the world on the Tour, it’s amazing to see Sean passing on his knowledge to those who love the game. I’ve been Seans assistant coach for the past 12 years and the thing that has always resonated with me is that he gives the same enthusiasm and effort to his craft whether he is working with the greatest player of all time or a 20 handicap. He truly loves what he does and his main goal is to help people. The school was held and the golf course and hotel were first class all the way. We had a chance to help 12 golfers who all had a chance to learn and grow their own game while being coached by the best coaches in the sport.
