Celebrate the small things! Swimming lessons is helping your child develop a life long skill! But don't forget to celebrate the small steps along the way!

It takes a year to learn how to walk and we celebrate when our children lift their head for the first time, push up on their hands durning tummy time, sit up, stand up and then first steps. Learning to swim is the same...small steps over a period, each step being a building block for the next, over a period of time lead to wet developed, successful swimmers.

3 Olympic gold medalists share lessons on water safety for kids According to the CDC and the U.S. Swimming Foundation, drowning is the number one cause of accidental death in young children — but swim lessons can reduce the risk by 88 percent. Olympians Rowdy Gaines, Missy Franklin and Cullen Jones debunk some of the biggest myths about drowning and swimming.

As many of you know, I work with Rowdy Gaines outside of lessons with your little ones. We have a opportunity to be on the TODAY show for a learn to swim segment at the end of the month. If you are interested in attending the filming for this segment, we will be doing it this Saturday at the Rosen Aquatic and Fitness Center on International Drive.

Ms. Kim, Ms. Maliea and I will be in the water teaching while we have some filming taking place while we teach the kids. Please read the email below and I hope to see you there!

Hello Swim Families,

I hope you all had a blessed Easter with your family and friends! I am reaching out to you all for an opportunity this Saturday, April 15, 2023 for a free swimming lesson.

We will be filming some video at the Rosen Aquatic and Fitness Center for a TODAY Show segment that will be on Friday April 28th. The segment will highlight STEP INTO SWIM and will talk about the different types of swimming lessons that are offered and highlight 2-3 things that parents can do at home to help keep children safe in and around the water.

STEP INTO SWIM is the philanthropic initiative of the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance. Their mission is to create more swimmers by investing in the next generation of swimmers through learn- to-swim programming in underserved communities. The STEP INTO SWIM initiative works to instill confidence; empower long-term participation in water activities; tout the positive benefits of water play; and advocate for safe practices in and around the water.

We would love to see your family this Saturday to attend the filming. The afternoon will go as follows:

2:00 – Level 1, beginner swimmer.
2:00 – Level 2, comfortable on the steps, putting face in the water, jumping off steps and monkeying.
2:45 – Level 3, Can push off wall/steps and swim to instructor.
2:45– Level 4 & 5, Can take a breath on their own, swim length of pool. Beginning strokes.
