🥊 Joe Louis became the first black golfer to ever play on a registered PGA event after being invited initially to participate in the $10,000 San Diego open he found that participants were limited to those of the “Caucasian race only” by PGA president Horton Smith. Louis who by now was retired from boxing used his power and took to the press humiliating the PGA into making a law where men of colour had to qualify for said events. Quoted as saying “we’ve got another Hi**er to get by”. On jan 17 1952 Louis became the first golfer to compete in a PGA sanctioned event. He shot an opening round of 76 4over par but the barriers had truly been broken down by the great ‘brown bomber’ Joseph Louis Barrow……Joe Louis. ⛳️🥊💪
