Once you start something, the clock is ticking.
Something good is going to happen as long as you don’t ‘break the chain’ and keep going.
Once you stop, the clock resets back to zero.

That’s how it works.

So, if you want to improve your strength and health, start the clock by training the body with weights a few times a week and finding ways to move more in your day to day routine.

Keep the clock ticking by prioritizing time in your schedule for training.
Keep putting your workout clothes out the night before.
Keep reducing random take-out orders and late night snacks.
Keep showing up even when the voices in your head start telling you all the reasons why you should skip your workout today.
Keep learning and listening- to your body, energy levels, mood…And your coach if you have one :)
Keep learning what works and what doesn’t because the clock is ticking and you’re getting closer and closer to making it happen.

Embrace and enjoy the process, because 99% of your time is spent there.

Keep moving,
Coach Dom

Food gives us so many wonderful things. Food is family and culture. Food is first dates and anniversaries. Food is travel. Food is holiday tradition.
As you can see, food is a big part of our life experience.

Nutrition after 50 should:
* Focus on health and longevity.
* Fuel your day, eliminating dips in energy.
* Take into account your lifestyle, not somebody else's.
* Be built around strategies and behavior modification, not a diet.

A diet just focuses on the “what” you eat.

A sustainable, reasonable approach to nutrition after 50 has many working parts.
Maybe, you’re retired and like to travel.
There’s a good chance you’re an empty-nester and enjoy meals out.
You may also be very social.

A diet doesn’t take any of these things into account.

That’s why we put together Ageless Nutrition - A 6-week nutrition program that will improve nutrition immediately, along with helping you create a few strategies and a better foundation of habits to enhance the best years of your life!

During the 6 weeks we’ll...
* Build a foundation with the 6 pillars of nutrition.
* Create steps to organize your food intake.
* Implement strategies for meal preparation.
* Learn how to eat out and have a social life, without being excessive.
* How to get through plateaus.
* Improve your ecosystems and environments that are disrupting your health and weight.

You’ll have a plan, weekly lessons and the support you need to create a new perspective towards nutrition at this stage of life.

The rewards - you’ll feel great, lose unnecessary fat and create momentum.
We have 5 spots left and enrollment closes 9/10. Details are in the link ➡️https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Pm2-xFc0_LSkXi0BWNAwHY42E-vb3QsUv3uyuzfmImo/edit?usp=drive_link

This is a line from the book, Pillars of Earth by Ken Follet...
“They had figured out a good plan of attack. It would go wrong, of course: there was always something that went wrong. The important thing was to be flexible enough to cope with the unexpected.”

I like it because it sums up healthy living perfectly (and everything else in life for that matter).

You need a plan. Some kind of idea of what you are going to do based on what you determine is a healthy lifestyle.

Situations arise that will throw off your routine.

When you get a business meeting sprung on you that affects your normal workout time, do you just skip movement all together that day? Or do you shuffle things around and still make it a priority?

Does, “I didn’t have time to prepare a meal” apparently mean you had no choice but to go buy some crappy takeout meal?

You don’t need to prep six containers of perfectly portioned meals to eat right.
But, you do need to stop pretending that not meal planning = “I have no healthy options.”

Keep easy foods around - pre-cooked chicken, microwave rice, frozen veggies, Greek yogurt, fruit, protein shakes.

You’ll suddenly “have no choice” if you wait until you are hungry, tired, busy or unprepared.

But, you always have a choice.
You just didn’t make the choice before you were starving.

If you want to improve your plan when your perfect plan gets messed up, you may want to consider our 6 week Ageless Nutrition starting 9/14.
Enrollment closes on 9/10.

Results. We want them fast, but we also want them to last.

Making it fast involves short programs or sprints that get you firmly out of your comfort zone. Here are a few reasons why I think they are important:
* Visible results, improvements and progress satisfies our need for instant gratification. Seeing and feeling changes is a strong motivator.
* You can see the “finish line” in these types of programs, which makes it easier to stay focused.
* You don’t need to think. Just FOLLOW the plan as written.
* Short-term programs provide a “fresh start” aka “kick in the pants” we all could use from time to time to test our moral fiber and resilience.
* Life has short seasons when we can dedicate more time and energy to a fitness/health sprint. Why not take advantage of these times?

Making it last is forward progress. It’s raising the bar to new standards and creating new boundaries. Your ups and downs now fall within these new boundaries. Making it last is where most people have a hard time. Making it last is built around:
* Learning what works best for YOU (often from mistakes).
* Embracing the boring basics like portion control and reducing exposure to foods that don’t need to be eaten nightly.
* Small daily victories.
* Chipping away at bad habits.
* Focusing on happiness.
* Taking imperfect action.
* Feeling good mentally and physically.
* Enjoying the process.
* Taking personal responsibility for your fitness, health and wellness.

We want to avoid the cycle of sprint, slide, sprint, slide....
Finding a good balance between fitness sprints and steady forward progress is the way to go.

Keep moving,
Coach Dom

9/14 we start Ageless Nutrition - a short-term nutrition program built around creating a sustainable plan that if followed as written will produce fast results that last. DM “nutrition” and I’ll send you the link.

One of the most common phrases I hear when it comes to nutrition is…
“I know what to do. I just need to do it.”
So, why aren’t you doing it?

Here are 20 actionable items we can do to improve nutrition…
* Reduce snacking after dinner or randomly during the day.
* Focus on eating/increasing protein at every meal.
* Control portion sizes.
* Eat Slower.
* Stop eating when we’re 80% full.
* Swap out a couple servings of starchy carbs, bread, pasta… for fruits and vegetables.
* Know what you’re going to eat at least the day before.
* Eliminate calorie containing beverages.
* Trim that fat from our diet- measure oils, skip some of the dressings, condiments and heavy sauces.
* Track what you eat - staying under/at your targeted calorie goal.
* Eat out less.
* Reduce alcohol intake.
* Go for a walk after dinner.
* Have a few crucial conversations with the five people you’re closest to about your goals.
* Create boundaries with your coworkers.
* Have conversations with yourself when you go to reach for something impulsively… over time you’ll start to talk yourself out of it more than you’ll indulge.
* Learn basic cooking skills or improve your skills.
* Having an accountability coach… Someone you answer to weekly.
* Keep the s**t you know you can’t control yourself with out of the house!
* Get a minimum of 10,000 steps every day.
* Strength training a few times a week.

There’s a good chance three things on this list, if given a concerted effort, will improve your health immensely and shed 10-20 lbs of fat off your body in 8-12 weeks.

You don’t need a complete overhaul or some complicated diet. You need focus and accountability.

Keep moving,
Coach Dom

It’s Friday…and you’re living that sweet retired life…What’s for lunch hun?
Table for two with a lake-side view…because we ain’t got s**t to do!

It’s Friday...and you have a “business” golf outing.
Gatorades, cokes, beers, bars, snacks and clubhouse concessions.
A lot of calories can be consumed during a 4-5 hours round of golf.

It’s Friday...and your workplace takes pride in Friday lunch.
Italian is the choice of the week and oooh that chicken francese with buttery lemony pasta sounds delizioso.
Chicken devoured. Pasta gone. Remaining sauce, sopped up with a garlic knot.

And you know what’s wrong with Friday lunches like this?
Absolutely nothing. Live your life.

But, what does Saturday and Sunday lunch look like? How about Monday - Thursday?

Lunch doesn’t get as much love as breakfast and dinner, but it’s just as important.

Want to lose weight?...Lose the pre-diabetic diagnosis? Improve cholesterol and blood pressure?...Feel good the remainder of the day and not overeat in the evening?

Lunch matters!

Improving meal quality and creating awareness of food intake for the entire week is one small part of what we’ll be doing during our 6-week Ageless Strength Program starting 9/14.

Here is the link If you want to:
* Improve blood markers.
* Lose 8-15lbs before Thanksgiving.
* Have less digestion and stomach issues.
* Increase energy and recovery for workouts.
* Feel better than you have in a long time.

I’ve learned people love to talk about diets and nutrition, but when it comes to making changes- crickets.

Maybe it is just human instinct to resist change.
Maybe it's a lack of belief.
Maybe it’s fear of failure.
Maybe it’s the number one go-to excuse - “not enough time”.
Or maybe it’s just the fact that change requires work and talking is just a lot easier.

Now, if you are ready to put your words into action, a good place to start would be making trades.
* Saying “yes” to a structured workout might mean saying “no” to an hour of social media.
* Saying “yes” to controlling your portions and calories might mean saying “no” to eating out at restaurants so often.
* Saying “yes” to a nutrition coaching program might mean saying “no” to the latest fad diet and your nephew Joey Biceps telling you all you need is more protein.
* Saying “yes” to embracing change might mean you look at eating well and exercise as more than just a means to lose weight.

So, what are you prepared to say “yes” to?
What are you prepared to say “no” to?
You don’t have to change everything, but you do have to make compromises and a few better choices.

It’s your call. YOU decide.

On 9/14 we will be helping 10 people improve their health, lose weight (if that’s their goal) and feel better than they have in a long time. We keep the group small, so we can provide a deeper level of coaching and accountability.

DM or comment “nutrition” and I’ll send you the details.

The majority of people make eating healthy too complicated.
The “sophisticated nutrition plan” just has to be better, right?
Wrong.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Simplicity always wins because it is built around sustainability - Can I do this?

Better nutrition is not dieting.
It’s a combination of food, your environment, old habits and beliefs.

Shifting your lifestyle to a healthier one is a learned skill.
Learning something new takes practice and effort.
You don’t need a bunch of strict rules.
You DO need to pay attention.

But, it’s not always easy to pay attention, so we want to help hold you accountable.
So, if you are willing and ready to work on creating new standards and routines that will lead to:
* More energy
* Less inflammation.
* Better sleep.
* Body recomposition - less fat, more muscle.
* Improved health markers.

You probably want to participate in our 6-week Ageless Nutrition program.
It starts on 9/14.

If you are interested, DM or comment and I’ll send you the details.

Keep moving,
Coach Dom
