You don’t need to be confident to play great golf. You DO need to be competent to play great golf. The confidence we see the best players in the world demonstrate is a lagging reflection of thousands of hours of honing their craft.
Golfers I see in person and online are chasing confidence like it’s the magic key that unlocks the door to playing the best golf of their life. What they’re missing is that the confidence they seek is only created by constantly improving their skill set, becoming more competent.
If I’m on the operating table, I don’t want the most confident surgeon cutting me open, I want the most competent surgeon.
