It’s September 1st - DI contact day for 2028s. If you are contacted by a school on your list, fantastic!!! If not, remember, be patient, and be prepared to pivot.

But above all, remember you are choosing a college to get an education. Continue to do your homework to find a school and program that is right for you. Would you still want to be there even if the coach was no longer with the program?

Today at noon, the gate opens... Good luck on the rest of your journey!

To all 2028s: wishing you all an excellent Sept 1st. if you are pursuing D1 opportunities! Please remember Sept. 1st. is not the END of the process and doesn’t always dictate or define your journey.

For some, it will be an exciting day and for others there may be some disappointment. This is part of the process and there are options if you want to play in college!! Set appropriate expectations based on the confirmed interest you have or have not received. Keep in mind that confirmed interest from July/August can change. Stay in your lane! Paying attention to everyone else’s process takes energy away from yours.

Continue flexing your resilience muscles, be patient, be realistic and work hard! Do not compare yourself to others. Regroup and expand your list if needed. Consider schools from all divisons! Some programs may reach out that were not on your list. Take the call and be open minded. Communication will begin at 12:00 noon on Sept 1st.

Good luck!

***Be Proactive***

After September 1st, if you don’t hear from the program you wanted to, reach out to find out where you are on their list. Send follow up emails 1 week after the contact date. Things tend to shuffle after Sept. 1st and if you are seriously interested in a program that’s a good match for you, you want the coach to know it. Be your own advocate - coaches expect that.

If you did not receive any Sept 1st communication and the coaches do not respond to your follow up email, you are likely not on their list. Ask your club coach or recruiting coordinator to reach out for a final response from the program and move onto other options. If you did not hear from schools on your list it’s time to adjust and target schools in a lower ranking tier or different division. Making sure you are an athletic match with the programs you are target is the key for success with this process.

Good Luck!

***Ride the Waves***

Every program wants to secure blue-chip prospects. The top 50+ ranked athletes may get offers from many top ranked programs. They can only commit to one. So hang in there as things settle in the days after September 1st. While you may not be in a program’s first wave of contacts, if you are in their second wave and continue to show interest, there is a chance you can be considered for a spot. Most classes typically consist of 2 to 4 two-way middies, 1 to 2 attackers, 1 to 2 defenders, and 1 goalie.

Good luck!

***Calls and In-Person Meetings***

Regardless of when it happens, all potential student athletes will meet the coach and you want to be sure to make a good impression. Our best advice is recognize this is an interview - so be polite and prepared. Read each coach’s bio to find any interesting facts or common connections you could bring up during the visits. Prepare school specific questions.

It is extremely important that you do the majority of the talking. Practice a mock interview before your visit, take a note pad with questions already written out, show the coaches you are prepared and want to engage. Answer their questions honestly. Coaches will ask what other schools you are looking at. You want to list off a few others that also fall in the same ball-park from a ranking standpoint. The schools you disclose as your other options must have expressed interest in you with a phone call, text message, or visit.

Good luck!

***Make the most of your Fall***

A player can really benefit from a smaller group setting - so if you don’t get the contact you wanted or if you are on a short list trying to secure your spot, be prepared to go to the fall and winter events offered by the programs you are interested in. Remember that the chances you’ll wow a coach at a Fall tournament are slim - and even if you do, they’ll want to know more about you and what you’ll bring to their program. Keep weekends open and be flexible to attend individual school clinics.

The fall is very busy with prospect events. The graph shows events by month with division represented for the last year, just to give you an idea of who is holding events and when. D1 schools will transition to looking at next year’s class when they have this year’s positions filled.

***Be Honest & Realistic***

Coaches understand they aren’t the only ones with a short list, potential student athletes also have an idea of where they would like to play. But there is no reason to “ghost” a coach who has shown interest in you if you are not interested in their program or school - be polite and communicate if you are pursuing other options at this time so they can focus on others. If you aren’t sure about saying no thanks to a coach, run it by your recruiting coordinator or club coach for advice.

Good Luck!

***Be Prepared - Know What You Want to Know More About***

Invest some time researching the schools and programs you are interested in. You’ll make a good impression if you have done your homework and can have an informed conversation with the coach about your specific interests.

The women’s lacrosse section of the school’s athletic website is a good place to learn more about the program - news, rosters, coach bios etc. The college or university’s website can give you an idea about the academics, campus life, etc. But websites won’t tell you things like how many players travel, what the student-athlete support services are like or if a coach is recruiting for your position. Prepare general and school specific questions prior to phone calls and visits. Practice a mock phone call before your first phone call takes place. Saying your answers out loud and asking questions will make future phone calls and in person conversations with coaches much easier.

Good Luck!

September 1 is one week away! No matter what happens the work ahead is yours - emails, phone calls, visits etc. Consult and communicate with your parents and club/recruiting coaches, but college coaches want to talk to YOU!

Also keep in mind that everyone’s journey is unique. Try not to compare yourself to others, save your energy to focus on your controllables.

Good luck!

On August 28th we transition to a dead period as we approach the September 1st D1 contact date.

September 1 being a dead period does not mean coaches can’t reach out to players on that day, it means the communication can’t be in-person, so no VISITS until the 4th. And no more midnight calls, the contact time is now 12 noon so get your rest!

As you continue to prepare for post Sept. 1 activities, it’s a good idea to have a list of prospect events and a plan B of schools with your intended major and/or in the same ranking range as any schools who may have confirmed interest in you through your club coach or recruiting coordinator.

However you may want to hold off on registering for fall prospect events until after Sept. 1st unless you have confirmed interest from those schools and they are a good match for you.

Control your controllables!

Be sure to reference the NCAA’s website for the latest calendar.

While I’m currently at my max for 2028 clients, I know this time of year is so stressful for those hoping to be recruited. I’ll continue to post info that PSAs and families may find helpful. I want to emphasize, ANYONE can successfully navigate their own recruiting journey, and there are some very good online resources.
