Swap 'sheep' for axis and it still holds. Some things you just can't shake.

Packing for a Lazy L hunt is easier than you'd think. Layers, boots you've already broken in, your r***e or bow with enough ammo, and a good attitude are all you have to bring.

Leave the cooler at home. Our partner Yonkers Brothers, in Mason, TX takes care of your animal after the hunt, so there's no ice to buy and no rushing home with meat sweating in the truck. That's one less thing between you and the blind.

We look after the stands, the animals, and the guiding. You just show up and hunt. If you have questions before your first trip, DM us. We'd rather you ask.

Imagine your kid's first hunt.

Too small for the chair, so they spend most of it on your knee. Snacks in one pocket, gloves that don't fit in the other. A hundred loud questions on the drive in. Then a shape moves through the brush and the questions stop. Not because you shushed them. Because they saw it too.

Twenty years from now, they won't remember most of what you bought them. They'll remember the morning you took them hunting.

Take the kid. Pack the snacks. Answer the questions. You'll get it all back the day they ask to go again.

Exotics are open year-round here, so there's no draw and no waiting on a season. Just a weekend and your kid.

DM us to plan a family hunt.

We're proud to be on the side of fair chase, habitat, and passing it on.

Corn and protein are not the same job, and this week the Lazy L needed both.

Corn is the draw, not a trap. The game on this place picks its own paths and hits a feeder because it wants to, not because it has to. Wild animals work reliable food sources on their own schedule. Our job is reading that pattern so we can put you in the right spot at the right hour.

Protein is the nutrition. Native browse doesn't always cover what the herd needs, especially coming off the rut and heading into winter. Protein pellets rebuild bucks, carry does into spring in better shape, and keep the yearlings growing.

One gives them a reason to come by. One keeps them thriving. Together you get a healthy, wild herd that still plays by its own rules.

That's the difference between feeding wildlife and managing it.

"Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land." Aldo Leopold.

Some folks hear "conservation" and picture a poster. Out here it's a weekend full of work. It's protein in the feeders before the rut, water lines and sources filled & checked weekly, it’s food plots planted in the spring and fall hoping nature gives us a hand, and trail cams studied like game film so we know exactly what the herd can carry. Too many animals on too little land helps nobody. Neither does a ranch that sits empty.

Here's the part people forget: hunters fund it. Your license and your hunt pay for the herds, the habitat, and the work. When you book a weekend here, you're not taking from this land. You're keeping it in balance.

Harmony isn't scenery. It's work, and we do it year-round.

Every hunting story starts the same three words: "So there we were."

It's the next sentence that tells you everything. That's where the 150-yard shot becomes 350, the buck becomes a giant, and the buddy who never stopped shaking somehow becomes the hero.

So there we were... your turn. Finish it in the comments. Best one gets retold right here on the page.

"I think using animals for food is an ethical thing to do, but we've got to do it right. We've got to give those animals a decent life and we've got to give them a painless death. We owe the animal respect." Temple Grandin.

Someone will read that quote and think it argues against hunting. It doesn't. It describes hunting done right.

Nature doesn't do painless. A wild deer rarely dies of old age; it ends in the jaws of coyotes or a slow winter. Hunters are part of the food chain too. The difference is we're the only predator that strives for a clean ending. We practice all year, or should, so the shot lands where it needs to. Which is why we do everything in our power at the ranch to make sure this happens. Shooting at the range after the client travels in to make sure equipment is still on. Putting you with an experienced guide. Passing on the bad angles or shots that are iffy. And then tracking until the animal is found if needed. Then the animal goes to the freezer, not the ditch.

Respect for the animal isn't optional here. It's the whole job.

Somewhere right now, a hunter is counting down to whitetail season. You could be watching an axis buck step out onto the sendera instead. Tomorrow. Or any weekend you feel like it.

That's the beauty of hunting exotics in Texas: no closed season, no countdown, no waiting. The axis are on the feeders 365 days a year, the herds are healthy, and the hunting is wide open. All you need is a Texas hunting license.

Pick a weekend. Call 325-206-0640. We'll have the feeders full and the cooler iced.
