Sam Lynn has been studying Bluegrass music since he was five years old, taking private fiddle and guitar lessons at Time on the String Studio and Allen Music Shop in his hometown of Paducah. Now 17 years old and a senior at McCracken County High School, Lynn has already had the opportunity to share the stage with touring bands like The Steeldrivers, TreyHensley and Rob Ickes, Wayne Henderson, The Wheelhouse Rousters, SG Goodman, and The Travelin’ McCourys. He is also an active participant in the audition-based Kids on Bluegrass program with the International Bluegrass Music Association, performing at the annual World of Bluegrass Conference and Festival (2024-Raleigh, NC, 2025 and 2026-Chattanooga, TN).
Scott Napier is a Hazard, Kentucky native, who spent his early years learning the Appalachian musical heritage. At the age of 17, he began a nine-year professional apprenticeship touring with Kentucky Bluegrass icon Larry Sparks. Since 2014 he has focused on music education, working with Grand Ole Opry Member Bobby Osbourne to produce a series of instructional mandolin videos. Classroom instruction is also part of Napier’s resume, first as part of the Traditional Music Program at Hazard Community and Technical College, and now as the coordinator for the Capital Bluegrass and Traditional Music Program at Owensboro Community and Technical College. Napier still travels for music, playing festivals, recording sessions, training musicians, and leading educational programs across the country, including at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Owensboro.
Two western Kentucky musicians have received the 2026-2027 Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council. Scott Napier, of Owensboro, and Samuel Lynn, of Paducah, will work together to advance the art form of Bluegrass music.

Mama Said String Band is an instant classic, since 2016 they’ve been bringing their own brand of the grassroots music you’re so used to hearing to stages everywhere. This was such a special day welcoming Natalie Haas and Brittany Haas to Paducah The Grand Lodge on Fifth Not only did they offer a stellar performance but they did a workshop timeonthestring prior!! They raved about Paducah and vowed to come back!! CAVEAT: it’s always better live as videos often fail to capture the full vibe and depth of sound in that amazing space.

Natalie (cello) and Brittany (fiddle) Haas, American acoustic string musicians and composers are coming to Paducah for workshop/performance!
YOU CAN attend both (workshop and performance) or pick and choose!!
Sisters Natalie (cello) and Brittany (fiddle) Haas began their musical lives together, filling their childhood home with Bach suites and old-time tunes alike. It was on their own, however-following divergent paths through disparate musical traditions, countries, and cultures-that they both arrived as virtuosi and composers at the highest levels of contemporary string music. Fans of acoustic music can hardly mention one without referencing the other’s work. It is a collaboration a lifetime in the making, and a music encompassing travels through time and through the world. From Nashville to Norway, the Celtic Isles to California, Natalie and Brittany have absorbed, adapted, and made their own world of music. The result? HAAS. WORKSHOP: Learn a tune by ear, delve deep into stylistic ideas including left and right hand techniques, and explore all the ways to provide back up for it including harmonies, riffs, basic chordal substitutions, shuffling, chopping, and creating a cohesive arrangement with many repetitions of the same melody. All bowed stringed instruments welcome.
