For decades, duck hunters have done more than talk about conservation. We have paid for it.
Duck Stamp dollars have helped protect wetlands across the U.S. Prairie Pothole Region, the Duck Factory of
North America. These voluntary easements protect habitat that produces ducks for all of us, no matter which
flyway we hunt. These wetlands support 30% of the breeding ducks that return to the U.S. prairies every year!
Today, those protections face a serious threat. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering repealing a 2024
rule that provides a clear and fair process for establishing drain tile setbacks around protected wetlands. That
rule helps prevent drainage of the wetlands that hunters have already paid for. And we have an opportunity to let
the Service know what we think.
Like Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, and so many others, our team supports keeping the 2024 rule in place. It protects
the Duck Factory, respects voluntary easements, and provides certainty for landowners.
