A picture really can’t do the 3D compass rose carving on this Amboyna Burl landing net justice.

The depth, detail, and grain are even better in person. Add in the black 15" net basket, mother-of-pearl PJ’s logo, and organic h**p net bag, and this one is pretty special.

Our handcrafted nets never seem to stick around for long.

And if you’ve ever built an Amboyna Burl grip rod with us… you should probably take a look at this one before it’s gone. 👀

🍂 Can’t be in downtown Pagosa Springs? Pull up a front-row seat from wherever you are! 🎈

With fall colors just around the corner and downtown construction getting closer to the finish line, there’s never been a better time to check in on Pagosa Springs through the PJ’s Live We**am.

Watch the leaves begin to change, see what’s happening along Main Street, check the weather, or simply get your Pagosa fix when you can’t be here in person.

🎈 And mark your calendar for Saturday morning, September 19th! During the Colorfest balloon ascent, our rooftop camera has an incredible vantage point—giving you a front-row seat as the hot air balloons fill the Pagosa sky.

Watch the live cam anytime, 24/7, directly from our website:

Six days, a whole lot of craftsmanship, and some seriously beautiful bamboo fly rods.

Our September Bamboo Fly Rod Building Class was a great one. Each student started with raw bamboo and left with a handcrafted fly rod built by their own two hands—ready to fish, make memories, and someday be passed down.

A huge thank you to this class for spending the week with us at PJ’s. We loved watching each rod take shape and seeing the personality each builder brought to the process.

These rods turned out beautifully. 🎣

Ready to build yours? Our 2027 class schedule is already filling.

Thinking about signing up for a six-day bamboo fly rod building class at PJ’s?

Here’s a little strategy: tell your wife she can spend those six days soaking in the hot springs and enjoying the world-class spa at The Springs Resort while you’re in the workshop building your dream rod. 😏

Suddenly, “I’m going to spend six days building a fly rod” starts sounding a whole lot more like “We should Visit Pagosa Springs.”

Even better, PJ’s rod-building class participants receive 20% off accommodations at Springs Resort during their class stay.

You build an heirloom bamboo fly rod by day. She soaks, relaxes, and gets pampered. Then meet back up in the evening and enjoy Pagosa Springs together.

Everybody wins. 🎣♨️

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Weston Phillips 🌟

Technically, Weston joined PJ’s as our Apprentice Rodsmith… but at this point, “apprentice” hardly tells the whole story.

After the last year of training under PJ and Mike, Weston has become a skilled rodsmith in his own right, developing the patience, precision, and craftsmanship it takes to build bamboo fly rods the PJ’s way.

Weston is also the absolute definition of an old soul.

He may have only graduated high school earlier this year, but during bamboo rod building class weeks, he fits right in with a workshop full of retirement-aged men talking fishing, tools, craftsmanship, and life. Honestly, sometimes we forget which generation he belongs to. 😂

When Weston joined the team, we hoped we were adding someone who could learn the craft and grow with PJ’s. We could not have asked for a better fit. His work ethic, curiosity, patience, and genuine respect for the traditions of bamboo rod building make him an incredibly special part of the PJ’s family.

Rosanna does have one complaint: when Weston isn’t working or fishing, he apparently refuses to keep both feet safely on the ground. 🚵‍♂️😂 His love of BMX biking keeps us slightly more nervous than we’d prefer.

We’re incredibly proud of how far Weston has come in such a short time — and even more excited to watch the craftsman he continues to become.

Here’s to Weston: Rodsmith, fisherman, old soul… and occasional cause of anxiety for Rosanna.

There’s more to PJ’s than bamboo fly rods. 🎣

Stop in and experience the craft for yourself with a free workshop tour, learn something new at one of our fly-tying classes, or spend some time browsing a shop filled with unique fly-fishing gifts, bamboo apparel, books, art, handcrafted rods, landing nets, and more.

Whether you’re a lifelong angler or just curious about what goes into building a bamboo fly rod, there’s always something worth seeing at PJ’s.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Mike Frazier 🌟

Mike has been part of the PJ’s Fine Bamboo Rods family for almost three years and serves as our Head Rodsmith.

Mike lives and breathes hunting and fishing, and that passion carries straight into the craftsmanship he brings to the shop every day. His patience, dedication, attention to detail, and steady hand are a huge part of what keeps things moving behind the scenes at PJ’s.

Now, if you’ve followed our bamboo rod building classes, you may have noticed Mike doesn’t make many appearances in the group photos. We like to joke that he is very selective about when he agrees to be photographed. Put a fish in his hands, though, and suddenly he’s smiling ear to ear and completely camera-ready. 🎣😂

That pretty much sums Mike up — happiest outdoors, happiest around fish, and always willing to put in the time and care it takes to build something right.

We could not be more grateful for everything Mike brings to PJ’s and for the patience and dedication he shows our craft, our students, and our customers every day.

Here’s to Mike — Head Rodsmith, outdoorsman, craftsman, and apparently a much more willing photo subject when trout are involved.

We’re proud to carry bamboo apparel from Free Fly Apparel and ONNO at PJ’s Fine Bamboo Rods. 🎋

We’re pretty picky about the brands we bring into the shop, and these two are an easy fit. Both share our appreciation for quality materials, thoughtful craftsmanship, comfort, and products made to last.

And, of course, we might be a little biased toward bamboo. 😉

Soft, breathable, incredibly comfortable, and naturally suited for an active lifestyle, bamboo apparel just makes sense whether you’re headed to the river, traveling, or kicking back after a day outside.

Stop by the shop and check out our selection of Free Fly and ONNO bamboo apparel. It’s another way we’re bringing our love of bamboo beyond the fly rod.
