MEET KONA 🐾 | MASTER NATIONAL 2026

Kona heads back to the Master National this year already carrying something pretty special: she’s a member of the Master National Hall of Fame. That alone tells you a whole lot about the consistency and career this girl has put together.

Around here, though, Rody has another name for her: “Kona Roo.” 😂 This girl can bounce around like a kangaroo, and somewhere along the way the nickname stuck. Once you’ve seen Kona Roo in action, it makes perfect sense. 🦘

And Kona won’t be the only Lane dog making the trip to Oregon this year. Jim and Lisa will also have Shooter stepping to the line for his very first Master National. One seasoned Master National girl and one first-timer, giving the Lanes twice as much to cheer for this year. ❤️

Now it’s time for Kona Roo to head to Oregon and do what she knows how to do.

Tested First. Then We Put It in the Pro Shop. 🐾

We had the opportunity to try out a HOSS Strap for about a month before deciding whether it was something we wanted to carry at Best Retrievers.

And after actually putting it to work, we really liked it.

It’s waterproof, doesn’t stretch, is easy to clean, and the quick on/off design makes a whole lot of sense when you’re putting collars on and taking them off dogs all day long. Once you get the fit where you want it, it goes right back to that same fit each time.

In the reel, Rody walks you through the HOSS Strap, how it works with an e-collar, and some of the little details that stood out to us during the month we tested it.

We’re pretty particular about what we add to the BR Pro Shop. We’d rather use something ourselves first, and this one earned its spot.

MEET KAIZEN 🐾 | MASTER NATIONAL 2026

There are dogs that accomplish incredible things, and then there are dogs who leave their mark well beyond their own accomplishments. Kaizen is definitely one of those dogs.

Kai heads to Oregon this year looking for something pretty special: his SIXTH Master National plate. Five Master National plates have already made for one incredible career, and he’s not finished yet.

When asked what makes Kaizen special, Rob pointed to his personality, good looks and loving nature. He even joked that Kai is responsible for making him tolerable to most people. 😂

Around Best Retrievers, Kaizen has become a pretty familiar name for another reason too. Rob jokingly called him the “father of the world, or at least Paige, Texas,” and this year makes that line especially fitting. Two of Kaizen’s offspring, Wh***ey and C**t, will be competing at the Master National right alongside him.

And when Rob was asked what celebrity Kaizen would be, he didn’t bother picking one. His answer was simply, “He is a celebrity in his own right!”

Five Master National plates. Two offspring competing alongside him. And one more shot at bringing home number SIX.

TWO WEEKS OLD! 💎🐾

For everyone who just loves seeing puppy pictures, these little Field Cockers are officially two weeks old! ❤️

Just a reminder, this is what we call a silent litter here at Best Retrievers. We are providing our Whelping Service for Chad Leonard with Hill Country Gun Dogs, but these puppies are not being sold through Best Retrievers.

This is our second litter to whelp for Chad and his family, and we absolutely love working alongside them! So while these babies aren’t available, you still get to enjoy watching them grow right along with us. 🥰🐶

MEET TWISTER 🐾 | MASTER NATIONAL 2026

Some dogs earn their name. Twister has spent her entire life making absolutely sure nobody questions hers. 🌪️😂 Wild, crazy and just a little psychotic is how Rody describes her, but underneath all of that chaos is a dog who genuinely wants to please and absolutely loves attention.

The funny part about Twister’s story is that I strongly advised Rody not to pick her from the litter. He picked her anyway. And, according to him, I was right. 😂 She was aptly named from the beginning and has lived up to that reputation ever since.

But there’s a whole lot more to Twister than crazy. She loves to work, loves being where the action is, and for as wild as she can be, she also loves attention and has that desire to please that makes you appreciate the dog underneath all that personality. Rody has certainly never had to wonder what kind of day he’s going to have when Twister is involved. 😂

Twister is qualified and headed to Roseburg for the 2026 Master National, and we’re ready to see what our favorite little tornado has in store for us this year.

MEET MAPLE 🐾 | MASTER NATIONAL 2026

Some dogs come into your life and become part of your story. Others help shape it. For Sophie, Maple has done a whole lot of both.

Maple was Sophie’s first dog that she bought, trained, and handled completely on her own. From her college years and figuring out adulthood to stepping to the line together and earning their first Master National pass, so many of Sophie’s biggest milestones have Maple’s paw prints all over them.

Sweet, spoiled and relentless pretty much sums this girl up. 😂 But underneath all of that is a dog who has been incredibly devoted to Sophie and a partnership that has grown right alongside both of them.

Sophie says Maple has taught her more about training, handling and herself than she ever could have imagined. And while the titles and accomplishments are special, they aren’t what makes Maple Maple. It’s everything they’ve experienced together getting there.

Now these two are headed back to the Master National, and we couldn’t be more excited to watch Sophie and her girl step to the line together again. Let’s go, Maple! 🍁🐾

If there’s a job to do, Woody is ready to do it, preferably fast. 😂 Energetic, loving and always eager to please, Woody brings plenty of enthusiasm to everything he does, and that drive has taken him a long way.

Woody heads into the 2026 Master National as a three-time qualifier and a member of the Master National Hall of Fame after successful trips in 2023, 2024 and 2025. This year will mark his fourth trip to the Master National with Rody, and we’re pretty proud to have this team heading back to the line together.

Billy says one of the things that makes Woody so special is just how much he wants to please you. He loves a long retrieve, loves having a job to do and definitely appreciates hearing “job well done” at the end… especially if there’s a treat involved. 😂

And with all that speed and action, Billy says Woody’s celebrity match would be Matt Damon because Woody loves action. His walk-up song? “Atomic Dog” by George Clinton. Pretty fitting for a dog who doesn’t know much about doing anything halfway. 😂

Here’s to another trip to the Master National for Woody! 🐾
