Wookiees Hockey

Last week my Beer Comet buddies and I snagged the hardware! It's been a while since we pulled this off in the Rolling Meadows Hockey League. This was for the aptly named 40+ Silver Division as we are all enjoying varying degrees of silver flow! Awesome game and awesome season dudes! Now we wait 6 or 8 weeks for it to all start again.

Wookiees front office went back to school and therefore had to shift his priorities. I'll slowly work on getting this page current and updating the website. But here's a look at recent team activity:

Lots of injuries have made it hard to play with a consistent lineup. Craig was out for the first 5 games or so with a concussion he suffered playing ice hockey (why?) for another team. Mazzei has been out all season with a separated shoulder (hurt playing for another team). He should be back next week. Dietrich has been out with back problems, err an upper body injury. He's expected back next week. Greg had black lung disease or something. He's back! Kluzek had a shoulder injury but he pretty much played through it. Dan has had to some world traveling for his real job, and Chris Reed has had crazy work hours. Now goalie and front office guy, Chris Morgan has a broken ankle suffered while playing for another team. So that leaves Junior and Lance plus any subs. Here's what that looks like...

Wookiees Hockey has been neglecting this page lately. Sorry to the millions of fans who wait patiently for these awesome posts. So, the scores have been tilting towards the competition. 0-7 is the current record despite pretty decent play. Birman had a hat trick last Thursday but he was the only one who figured out how to bury it and the C-men put 5 past Morgan and added an empty netter.

The top 10 teams in this league are very good. Right now the record says the Wookiees are the worst of them but tonight we face the River Men. A team we've had success against in the past. They added the green pants guy who now scores most of their goals. Langrill will just have to give him some his trademark gooning and we should prevail. Go Wookiees!

We're 4 weeks into the new season with 2 bad losses a holiday and a bye out of the way. Now it appears that Marc Costanza who runs the Salt Creek Sports Center where the Wookiees play, has been let go. This explains why the schedule has not been posted beyond last week. Word on the street is that Bill Sanders is taking the reigns. Does anyone know what happened?

Next season will be better.

Here are a bunch of shots from that last few games featuring the new jerseys.

One heck of a season just wrapped with the Wookiees taking another 2nd place finish. It was a season to be proud of though with a 9-1-1 record, a shootout victory in the semi final and then a disappointing loss to the Bandito Barneys in the Cup Game. The level of play for the Wookiees and the rest of the league is way up from previous seasons and we've been officially labeled an upper level team. The Barneys are awesome without any real weaknesses. They will be the team to beat if we ever want that cup. Next season.

Holy Cats! This season is not sucking.
