It’s the most underrated and under-used tool in the health toolbox.

It’s free.

It's something you learned long ago.

And it’s as simple as one foot in front of the other.

Walking.

Make it fun.

With the kids, friends or the dog. Don’t have a dog? Offer to take your neighbor’s dog. 😉

I use the time to chat and connect with Lisa. When she walks she uses it as time to listen to an audio book.

It’s a ‘kill two birds with one stone’ activity.

Before you even start with a coach, take a free gift of walking and begin to:

Burn calories
Reduce stress
Either get alone time or social time with others
Improve your mood
Reduce the risk of certain diseases.

Do you make the right comparison?

During this time of year we are compelled to set new goals, start new ventures, even force ourselves to be different.

It’s January, its a new year, right?

This time of year, I wonder how many people are struggling on the inside with facing the same weight to lose, the amount of dress sizes to drop, the same food challenges.

Do you want this to be a new you, new year or actually be talking about your results by spring?

I had a client who would love to talk a big game during a workout session. He would Often say he could beat my weight or my reps. So one day on the leg press machine I decided to jump in and show him what I can really do as his coach.

I threw down 540lbs for reps….

He stopped talking and got into the seat and started to tap into his best. By the end of our fourth set he had gone further than he could go by himself.

We should always compare ourselves to ourselves and never to others.

But something surprising hit me after that session. We will always need the help of others to reach our goals.

Don’t spend this January making tons of goals that will overwhelm you. Instead look at where YOU are right now and where YOU want to go.

Make a small list of goals and then grab a friend, a coach, a family member. Just someone to help you see it through who will help you unlock what’s inside of you.

That's why I created Hybrid Body. A family all helping each other to be better everyday and not give up on what they started.

“New year, new you” is NOT what we’re about.

As I look back on my years as a coach, judo player, and most recently a BJJ player, I see it’s the number one rule taught to me by my coaches that I pass on.

I am early in my BJJ training and my coach reiterated what I know to be true and he said:

“Training once per week is better than no times a week, twice a week is better than once a week, three times a week is better than twice a week… You get the idea?

Me…”Got it, so showing up consistently is going to get me there?”

Coach… “Yes. And having the right mindset that the more you put in and the more you show up, the more you’ll get out of it.”

Bingo. It’s not new year, new you. No magic pill. No magical day.

It’s about consistency.
It’s showing up.
For yourself.
For your loved ones.

It’s you doing what it takes to be your best. And guess what that means?

Tomorrow, you get better.

And the next time you show up?

Yep, you get better.
