Rest in Peace Nueman Hanshi. I will miss our conversations at camp and the inspiration you gave to all.
How has martial arts training impacted your life? My list is very long. I would point out the three most import benefits I received, all equal in significance.
1. The ability to impact so many lives in a positive way as a teacher. Many students whom I still keep in touch with even thought their journey in Karate halted many years ago.
2. Life long friendships. So many wonderful people and relationships that are alive today as they were 35 years ago.
3. Many life lessons that have shaped me into who I am today, personally and professionally.
Martial arts training is more than kicking and punching (grappling if you train in BJJ). If you look past the technique and the physical development, focus on the development of character, and you too will see the masters were wise. The principles that guide us is what prepares a warrior to protect life both in War and Peace.
Stay true to yourself. Honestly and sincerity does start within.
I see a lot of varying techniques online. Many good, most impractical. In a real situation a grab is typically followed with a strike or a grappler will take you down. I believe these attacks are more likely to come from a blind spot. Listen to the lesson, you will understand the philosophy and methodology on how to apply a technique like this. We do it slow with. compliant partner for safety and to learn the right mechanics. As we advance in skill and experience we speed it up, so do not assume we do not evolve to stress testing this in our training. This technique works from various types of grabs including the wrist with slight adjustments to work the opponents joints. All techniques include vital striking applications, never limited to a wrist lock per se.
Some vintage video (2003) of Ken LaPeters and me training Eaku with our teacher Hanshi Geraldi (RIP)
"The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle", said someone in history...
Started posting more based on request. I am open to healthy dialog and willing to answer questions as long as people have nobile intent. It is perfectly acceptable to question demonstrated techniques, I do not hide and always happy to demonstrate live what ever I post.
One should strive to understand the philosophy and methods used. Do keep in mind, it is hard to get a lesson through a demo video. It is mostly for entertainment and to spark interest. In no way am I giving a self defense lesson or advice here.
But if you are a fool and really do not understand techniques, I suggest you refrain from saying stupid s**t.
Having some fun with Jesse. Demo front kick set up to stop attack, accept and redirect attack hand and disable opponent. Combined techniques from 2 katas
Shihan Jesse Gulutz demonstrating one of our basic sai kata.
One of the numerous instructional video's in my membership library. Slow Speed for demo and instruction. The is our first basic Jo Katas. First you learn the exercise and basic drills, then following "kihon" (basic), a student learns the intermediate and advanced versions, which leads to application study and practice.

Great weekend in South Carolina. Hanshi Geraldi’s Memorial Seminar. Thank You Renshi Raul Perez for hosting.
Very basic lesson on Tuite. The focus is on position and mechanics not how to actually use the technique in real situations, yet!
