Tomorrow is my last day working for MDEC. Its been an amazing four and half years and I feel truly fortunate to have been able to work with the people who work here, work for clients who've been here past and present, learn from so many walks of life and schools of thought, and of course, the horses. It all comes down to those horses. What a way to make a living- to be around the horses day in and day out. So fortunate are we who get to work and/or play with horses.
Safe Rides and Big Strides Everyone!
[11/13/12] More wonderful news: At this weekend's Gold Coast Dressage Fall Fling Show The Hendrix's Don Toroo won his 2nd Level 3 Test with a 68% and Jane Rainis' Cruzeiro Interagro won his 1st level 3 test with a 66%. Great job Heather Bender and Treasure Coast Dressage!!!!
[11/12/12] A little blonde birdie told me that on Sunday at Palm Beach Horseman's Taylor Bennet WON her class on "Just Sayin"" aka Sebastian, and that locks her in for high point award as well!
Looks like a great day at the shows today for MDEC riders! So far Avary Mister and Holly have taken a 1st, 2nd, and a 4th in the 2'6 Jumpers at Palm Beach Horseman's.
Leah Winston just started her day off right with a 79.1 at Gold Coast Dressage's Fall Fling Show. Keep up the great work ladies!!!
[11/03/12] Treasure Coast Equestrian Arts will be at the Paws for a Cause event today. Heather and Zairo are performing at 2PM!
[10/30/12] So peaceful throwing hay on a cool night like this, no noisy fans on, just sound of cozy horses munching hay. Love it!

My last day at Martin Downs Equestrian Center will be November 15th, 2012. As of Monday I have submitted my 30 day notice and resignation in order to pursue an exciting new direction in my career working with JRD Saddlery here in Palm City. This decision has been as emotional as it is exciting but I am eager to expand my skill set and learn from an extremely talented and dedicated custom saddle-maker, to help run a quickly expanding business, and yet still be very involved in the horse world and all of the interesting people in it.
The Cosmans have accepted my offer to help locate and introduce a new Barn Manager for MDEC as this place deserves a qualified and eager person to keep moving ahead. I am now accepting resumes to hand pick the best candidates. If you know anyone who might fit the bill, please pass on this casting call! HAVE THEM EMAIL A RESUME TO [email protected]. No stop-ins please!
Though I will still be in the area, I am going to miss my day to day interactions with my clients and their horses, this gorgeous facility and all of the amenities that we get to take for granted, and the camaraderie. I am so blessed to take with me the lessons I've learned from being a part of this place and the information and experiences that many people have learned and shared with me. It has been a highlight of my career thus far and I will never forget how fortunate I am to have been able to work here.
Safe Rides and Big Strides!
[10/06/12] AQHA Worlds: Kaitlin Larschen and Amanda Gregory are both quite happy with a 3rd place and a 5th place respectively. Amazing job Ladies! Keep it up!!
[10/03/12] Amanda Gregory and Kaitlin Larschen are on their way to AQHA World's with Chrome and Taser. Ladies, have a great time and GOOD LUCK!!!!
[10/01/12] Wanted to report that the Western Dressage Clinic we just hosted in Palm City, taught by Heather Bender of Treasure Coast Dressage, was a HUGE success. Two days before the event the calls came in faster than I could pick up! 18 riders is where we capped it (with 6 on standby!!) and we easily had just as many paid auditors. Looks like Western Dressage appeals to lots of folks in this area. Our youngest participant was 13 and came all the way from Lauderdale to attend! FYI Heather's riding academy, Treasure Coast Equestrian Arts, is now adding Western Dressage classes to their offerings due to proven interest.
[09/29/12] Western Dressage Clinic today- HERE WE GO!!
Regarding the Western Dressage Clinic this weekend:
We really need the paperwork with descriptions of people's experience as we will need to split the large group of riders into appropriate groups. We will start with brief UNMOUNTED discussion at 12:15pm, first group to be mounted at 1:00pm, second group at 2:30pm, third group at 4:00pm. At 5:30pm will be a Q&A to close the clinic out. Regarding t
he dinner, I need a firm headcount because if we do not have enough people who want dinner then we won't have the caterer come. To maximize your learning experience you need to be prepared to watch each others' groups ride as the topics covered will be different in each group. For paperwork and other info, call or text Tara at 772-260-5814 or email at [email protected] or PM here.
[09/26/12] We are having an overwhelming response to the upcoming Western Dressage Clinic, it looks like it will be a great time with some great people! If you have not signed up yet we are approaching the last few slots being available. Once again, we also need a dinner headcount for the casual dinner (BYOB) with lecture. Call/Text Tara at 772-260-5814 or email [email protected] for paperwork and details.

Message to MDEC boarders and riding students:
The front 5 acres of the property is now a No Wake Zone based on suspicion that it could now be a Manatee area. Kindly keep your vehicles between the channel markers by the middle arena and jump course- we dont want to scar the sea grasses! Freshwater Fishing permits will need to be displayed by anyone carrying fishing gear into the grass pastures. Spear fishing is prohibited for now. Divers and snorkelers need to have dive flags so that you will not be run over by the canoes.
PS: I am looking for a stand up paddle board if anyone has one to lend. I could really use one for use when I come back at night for night-check and my brother's wading suit is too big.
